Suzuki Across: New Plug-in Hybrid SUV Unveiled

Suzuki presents a new generation of its plug-in hybrid Across SUV. Based on the sixth-generation Toyota RAV4, this model boasts 304 horsepower thanks to its plug-in hybrid system and E-Four all-wheel drive transmission. It integrates a 22.7 kWh battery and rapid charging up to 50 kW.
"This Suzuki hides its lineage better than the first generation, thanks to its new black grille that completely changes the vehicle's personality" — Le Blog Auto

An Admitted Clone of the Toyota RAV4
The second-generation Suzuki Across makes no bones about its origins. Like its predecessor launched in 2020, it borrows the platform from the Toyota RAV4—this time in sixth-generation form. This partnership between the two Japanese manufacturers allows Suzuki to offer hybrid models without developing its own technology.
Differentiation remains minimal but effective. The black grille replaces the body-color mesh element of the RAV4, giving the SUV a more assertive personality. The rear end is pure Toyota. Four colors are offered: Massive Gray, Ever Rest, Super White, and Attitude Black.
Powertrain: 304 Horsepower in Plug-in Hybrid Form
Under the hood, Suzuki offers just one powertrain option: the plug-in hybrid. The 2.5-liter gasoline engine develops 143 horsepower and combines with two electric motors (150 kW front and 40 kW rear) for a combined output of 304 horsepower.

Performance figures are respectable: 0–100 km/h in 6.1 seconds with a top speed of 180 km/h. The E-Four all-wheel drive system comes standard across all versions—a real advantage for users seeking off-road capability.
A Larger Battery
The 22.7 kWh battery represents a substantial gain versus many competitors. The onboard charger accepts up to 11 kW on AC current, while rapid charging reaches 50 kW on DC. These specs place the Across at the top tier of plug-in hybrid SUVs.
Electric range remains to be confirmed, with homologation data not yet released. New silicon carbide semiconductors boost system efficiency while freeing up cabin space.

Rethought Interior
The cabin adopts Toyota's signature "island architecture," clustering major controls around the driver. The driver's station features a 12.3-inch digital cluster and a 12.9-inch central touchscreen. For the first time, the Across receives a head-up display.
The driver's seat offers 10 power adjustments with memory function, against 8 adjustments for the passenger. Both front seats are heated across three levels and finished with fabric-leather combination upholstery. The trunk provides 446 liters by VDA standard, with a hands-free tailgate and a nearly-flat-folding rear bench.
When and at What Price?
Commercial availability dates and pricing have not yet been announced by Suzuki France. The manufacturer is currently limiting itself to disclosing the technical specifications of this second-generation Across.

This badge-engineering strategy raises questions about positioning and price. Up against a Peugeot 3008 Hybrid, a Volkswagen Tiguan eHybrid, or a Hyundai Tucson PHEV, the Across will need an attractive price tag to justify its existence. The first generation sold for around €50,000—a steep ask for a Suzuki.
The gamble is risky. Pitching a large plug-in hybrid SUV in a French market increasingly skeptical of this powertrain type requires solid pricing arguments. Suzuki will have to convince buyers that its badge is worth the detour compared to the original Toyota.
