Tesla Semi Europe 2027: First Megachargers & Performance Revealed

Tesla accelerates its rollout with the opening of its first public Megacharger and prepares for a European launch announced for 2027. The manufacturer has also just announced the specifications of its redesigned Semi, with a weight reduction of 450 kg and a range that can reach 800 km.

First Public Megacharger: The Revolution Begins
March 9, 2026 marks a pivotal date for the Tesla Semi program. The company inaugurated its first Megacharger accessible to customer fleets in Ontario, California, located at 4265 E Guasti Road. This station, strategically placed near Interstate 10 and close to the Port of Los Angeles, can now charge Tesla electric trucks at 750 kW, a power equivalent to that of 15 V3 Superchargers operating simultaneously.
Unlike the two other existing sites at Gigafactory Nevada and Carson, reserved for Tesla's internal fleets, this new facility marks the opening of the network to external customers. A crucial step that confirms the ramp-up of the Semi program after years of development.
Tesla plans to install 37 new Megachargers in 2026, as part of a broader plan including 66 sites spread across 15 US states. Texas will lead the way with 19 locations, followed by California with 17 sites.
Performance That Obliterates Diesel
The first feedback from the pilot program confirms Tesla's initial promises. Mone Transport, a Texas-based carrier specializing in cross-border freight, shows impressive results: 1.64 kWh/mile over more than 4,700 miles traveled. This figure exceeds Tesla's initial target of 1.7 kWh/mile by 3.5%.
PepsiCo, DHL, Saia, and now Kroger with its Ralph's subsidiary are multiplying orders. The California supermarket chain ordered no less than 500 Semis in March 2025, demonstrating growing adoption in the large distribution sector.

Redesigned Semi: 450 kg Less, Optimized Aero
The March 23, 2026 episode of Jay Leno's Garage revealed the details of the redesigned Tesla Semi. Franz von Holzhausen (Chief Designer) and Dan Priestley (Semi Program Director) unveiled the major improvements made to the electric truck.
The reduction of 450 kg in curb weight represents a substantial gain for operators. In a sector where every kilogram counts to maximize payload, this optimization allows for carrying more goods while maintaining electric performance.
The new integrated 4680 cells and revised aerodynamics contribute to these gains. The maximum range now reaches 800 km in the long-distance version, compared to the initially announced 500 miles (805 km).

When Will the Semi Arrive in Europe?
Elon Musk confirmed in an interview with André Thierig, director of Giga Berlin: "We've got the Tesla Semi coming out, the heavy truck, and that'll be going to Europe hopefully next year". This statement from February 27, 2026 sets 2027 as the target year for the European deployment.
The choice to make this announcement alongside the director of the German factory suggests that Giga Berlin could play a central role in the distribution, or even the European production of the Semi. This strategy would align with Tesla's logic of producing locally for its regional markets.

A Charging Network Adapted for Europe
Tesla will not only deploy its trucks in Europe but will also adapt its infrastructure. The company is currently recruiting a Commercial Charging Manager for Central Europe, according to a recent job posting. This position will be responsible for developing charging products for heavy goods vehicles.
European regulations impose 45-minute breaks every 4.5 hours for truck drivers, compared to 30 minutes every 8 hours in the United States. This difference requires an adaptation of the charging strategy, but the 1.2 MW of maximum power
