Tesla is multiplying the Model Y's variants in early 2026: a 7-seat version now available in Europe, a long-wheelbase Model Y L homologated on the Old Continent, discounts of up to €3,000 in Germany, and a €5,000 trade-in bonus in France that drops the price below €30,000. The world's best-selling electric SUV is trying to reclaim lost ground against an increasingly aggressive Chinese competition.

"Even in seven-passenger configuration, you can fit two carry-on bags in the rear trunk and two large suitcases in the frunk." — Tesla, about the Model Y 7-seat

The strategy is clear: Tesla is pulling out all the stops. After the late 2024 launch of the entry-level version — since rebranded, with the name "Standard" quietly disappearing from the configurator — the brand is piling on variants at a brisk pace. This is not the approach of a serene automaker managing its lead. It is that of a player scrambling to cover as many segments as possible, quickly, with a single chassis.

A 7-Seat Version Arrives Across Europe

The Model Y 7-seat is now orderable in Belgium, Italy, Germany, and the Netherlands, with an additional €2,500 premium over the base version. The configuration is based on the Premium Long Range AWD trim, listed at €52,990 in France according to the current catalog, and claims up to 629 km WLTP range.

The third row features two forward-facing seats, foldable via buttons on the second-row seatbacks — the mechanism is electric in Germany, manual depending on the market. Tesla advertises 2,094 liters of total volume with all seats down, 381 liters behind the third row, and 116 liters in the frunk. Those hoping to fit adults for a Paris-Lyon trip would do well to temper expectations: the headroom remains that of a compact SUV, not a Vellfire.

💡 Did you know?
The 7-seat version of the Model Y had already been available in the United States for several weeks before arriving in Europe. The €2,500 surcharge is identical across all European markets where it is sold.

The Model Y L: A Different Beast, Built in Berlin

This is the most intriguing dossier. The Model Y L — L for Long — gains 17.7 cm over the standard Model Y, reaching 4.97 meters, with a wheelbase of 3.04 meters. The configuration is 2+2+2, six seats, with two independent seats in the middle and an aisle for access to the third row. Autoplus reports that European homologation was obtained at the end of December 2025, and that first deliveries on the continent were expected before the end of the first quarter of 2026.

What changes everything: it is produced at the Gigafactory in Berlin, not imported from China. Tesla thus controls its timelines and logistics costs, bypassing European customs duties on vehicles made in China — which still apply after the European Commission's decision in 2024. The announced power is 506 hp in Dual Motor version, with the same battery as the Premium Long Range. Australia is expected to be the first market outside China to receive this variant, according to Autoblog.

Will the Model Y L Arrive in France?

According to Motor1 France, nothing is officially confirmed for the French market at this stage. But European homologation is in place and Berlin production has started — the technical conditions are met. According to our information, a French launch in the second half of 2026 would be in the pipeline, even though Tesla never communicates its deployment schedules in advance.
