Available in France since February 27, 2026, the Tesla Model Y 7-seater is back in the catalogue after a one-year absence. Reserved for the Premium Long Range All-Wheel-Drive version, this configuration costs €2,500 more than the equivalent 5-seater, for a total price of €55,490. Two extra seats in the trunk, a WLTP range of 600 km, and a price that immediately excludes it from the eco-bonus.

An Option That's Made a Comeback

The Model Y 7-seater isn't brand new. Tesla launched it in October 2024 on the old Model Y, then it completely disappeared with the Juniper facelift in early 2025. A year of silence, and here it is again, almost identical in principle, but with the "Juniper" badge and the equipment that comes with it.

The SUV gets two forward-facing seats in place of the trunk. To access them, the outer seats of the second row slide forward and fold down via buttons integrated into the backrests. Tesla promises "effortless" access. In theory, yes. But if you've ever tried to get a 6-year-old into the back of an SUV this size, you know the reality: it takes time, it's a squeeze, and the magic mostly happens in promotional videos.

💡 Did you know?
The 7-seat version of the Model Y weighs 52 kg more than the equivalent 5-seater. It's this extra weight that drops the range from 629 km to 600 km WLTP.

What It Really Means for the Trunk

With the third row deployed, the cargo volume drops to 381 liters behind the seats. Add the 116-liter frunk under the front hood, and you get 497 liters available in practice. Not catastrophic, but far from the comfort of the 5-seat version. Two carry-on suitcases and your son's soccer bag will fit. The baby stroller, much less so.

Fold down the third row and the trunk goes back up to 894 liters. With everything folded, you reach 2,094 liters of total volume — enough to justify buying an extra Labrador. That's where the Model Y 7-seater becomes interesting again: the real modularity is there when you're not using the back seats.

When Can You Get One?

According to the Tesla configurator, the first deliveries of the Model Y 7-seater are scheduled for April-May 2026 — the same lead times as the 5-seat version with this powertrain. It's not immediate, but it's still reasonable. In France, the configuration has been available on the online configurator since February 27, 2026.

€55,490: That Price Stings

Let's be direct. €55,490 for an SUV without 7 seats as standard is expensive. Very expensive. Especially since this price makes it ineligible for the French eco-bonus, whose ceiling is below this price.

The comparison that hurts is the Peugeot ee-5008](/article/peugeot-remplace-le-puretech-par-le-moteur-turbo-100-sur-208-et-2008): 7 seats standard, starting at €46,990, that's €8,500 less. Sure, the Lion's range doesn't rival the Model Y's 600 km, but for a family doing 40 km a day, that's an argument that falls flat. The Kia EV9 and the Mercedes EQB are also in the race in this segment, but positioned even higher in price.

To be fair, the Model Y Long Range starts at €52,990 without the 7-seat option, and the extra €2,500 remains a controlled sum for what it brings. It's the overall positioning of the version that stings, not necessarily the cost of the option itself.
