Tesla Cybertruck AWD at $59,990: Most Accessible Version Finally Here

The Tesla Cybertruck has finally gotten its cheapest version yet: a Dual Motor AWD priced at $59,990 (roughly €51,000) in the US, announced on February 20, 2026. At the same time, Tesla slashed the Cyberbeast by $15,000 to $99,990. Sounds like good news — except Elon Musk clarified on X that this price would only last 10 days.
"Tesla is currently selling only around 5,000 Cybertruck units per quarter – less than ten per cent of the originally forecast annual volume of more than 250,000 vehicles." — Electrive, citing Electrek
A Pickup That Never Found Its Audience
The numbers are clear, and they hurt. In 2024, Tesla still delivered 39,000 Cybertrucks. By 2025, that number collapsed to around 20,000 units — barely half. Elon Musk's original target? Over 250,000 vehicles per year. The math doesn't add up, not by a long shot.
The problem has been obvious from the start: price. Back in 2019, Musk promised a Cybertruck starting at $40,000 (some sources even mention $39,990 for the base version). When the truck finally arrived in late 2023, it came with a price tag starting around $80,000. The public didn't bite. Speculators who had reserved to flip found themselves with an asset losing value rather than gaining.
Tesla had already tried a lifeline in April 2025 with a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) version around $70,000. It was pulled from the lineup a few months later for lack of buyers. This new AWD version is supposed to fix things.
What the New Model Actually Offers
The Dual Motor AWD version packs two motors for 593 horsepower, all-wheel drive, and an EPA-rated range of 325 miles (523 km). The 0-60 mph sprint comes in 4.1 seconds — identical to the Premium AWD model that costs $20,000 more.
📋 Fiche technique
But Tesla made cuts to justify the price. The air suspension with variable ride height is gone, replaced by conventional coil springs — though adaptive dampers remain. The rear passenger screen is removed, as are the faux-leather upholstery. Towing capacity drops to 3,400 kg versus 5,000 kg on the Premium. That's not trivial for a pickup meant to work.
When Will It Be Delivered?
According to several sources, deliveries of this base AWD version won't start until June 2026 at the earliest, or even 2027 per InsideEVs DE. The promotional price of $59,990 was valid for orders placed within 10 days of the announcement. After that window, the price went back up to $69,990 — a $10,000 increase, but still less than the Premium at $79,990.
The 10-Day Strategy: Genuine Urgency or Marketing?
Musk's declaration on X immediately sparked debate. Creating artificial urgency for a vehicle whose deliveries won't start for months is, to say the least, a surprising move. The Tesla community is split: is it a market test to gauge demand, or just a PR stunt?
What's certain: the "limited-time price" tactic has been used by Tesla on other models before. It works on fence-sitters. But here, with deliveries over six months away, the urgency argument stings a bit. Signing a $60,000 check to get your car in 2027? That's a special kind of patience.
