The new Twingo E-Tech from Renault arrives in 2026 with a starting price of €19,490 before incentives. Developed in just 21 months, this electric city car boasts a range of 263 km and positions itself as one of the most affordable electric cars on the market.

"It's a strong counter-proposal from the European industry, it's going to change the game" — Luca de Meo, former CEO of Renault

The Renault Twingo returns to the spotlight more than 30 years after its first appearance. This fourth generation marks a turning point with a 100% electric powertrain and a design that clearly winks at the original 1992 model. With its €19,490 entry price, it's shaping up to be one of the most accessible electric city cars.

A record development time of 21 months

Renault has made a bold move with this new Twingo. The manufacturer completed its development in just 21 months, twice as fast as for a conventional electric vehicle. A feat made possible by collaboration between the French Technocentre, the ACDC centre in Shanghai, and the Novo Mesto plant in Slovenia.

This collaborative approach reduced development costs by 20% and investments by 50%. "A development time no European manufacturer has been able to achieve until now," says a brand spokesperson.

💡 Did you know?
More than 4.15 million Twingo units have been sold since 1992, with 2 million sold in France alone.

The frog's look, 2026 edition

This new Twingo brilliantly plays the nostalgia card. It revives the monovolume silhouette of the original, with its short bonnet flowing from the windscreen and its bulging headlights that give it that endearing face. But beware, it has grown: 3.79 metres long, 36 cm more than the first generation.

The clean design incorporates semi-circular front and rear lights, a modern lighting signature that contrasts with the retro style. The proposed colours - absolute green, absolute red, mango yellow - recall the pop spirit of the 90s.

Starting from what price?

The range starts at €19,490 for the Evolution trim and peaks at €21,090 for the Techno. But with government incentives, the price can drop to €13,750, or €110 per month on a long-term lease.

This aggressive pricing puts the Twingo in direct competition with Chinese models and makes it one of the cheapest new electric cars on the European market.

💡 Key figure
The Twingo E-Tech benefits from a favourable eco-score, allowing it to take advantage of the French ecological bonus.

A single powertrain, but well thought out

Renault is betting on simplicity with a single motor of 82 hp powered by a 27.5 kWh battery. The announced range reaches 263 km on the WLTP cycle, but initial tests reveal around 220 km in real-world use with an average consumption of 12.9 kWh/100 km.

Charging is standard at 6.6 kW, allowing a full charge in 4h30. An "Advanced Charge" option increases power to 11 kW AC and 50 kW DC, reducing the 10-80% charge time to about 30 minutes on fast charging.

📋 Fiche technique

Renault Twingo E-Tech

Practicality and modularity delivered

Interior space is a strong point of this new Twingo. The two rear seats slide independently over 17 cm, allowing space to be optimised according to needs. Slid all the way back, they offer room for taller passengers. Slid forward, they free up 360 litres of boot space, extendable to 1,000 litres with the seats folded.

The Techno trim even offers a folding front passenger seat, allowing transport of objects up to 2 metres long. A modularity that recalls the practical spirit of the original.

When will it be available?

The Techno version will be delivered from spring 2026, while the Evolution will arrive from summer 2026. Orders are already open at Renault dealerships.

💡 Technical point
The Twingo E-Tech features 24 driver assistance systems, including a "My Safety Switch" button to easily deactivate them.
