Renault relaunches its Twingo E-Tech electric car with a starting price announced at €17,000 and an Evolution trim at €18,500. Following the press tests organized in Ibiza in March 2026, the automotive press has given an enthusiastic welcome to this city car, which could drop as low as €14,000 with incentives. Facing the Dacia Spring and the Citroën ë-C3, the small French EV claims the title of the cheapest electric car on the market.

"Choosing the high trim and several options is almost mandatory for a price closer to 21,500 euros, or 16,000 to 18,000 euros after the government incentive, which remains the best offer on the market" — Xavier Champagne, AutoActu

A Game-Changing Price

The Twingo E-Tech makes a strong statement right from its price announcement. With a catalogue price starting at €17,000, it positions itself as one of the most accessible electric vehicles at the moment. But the real surprise comes from the various available incentives: between the ecological bonus, regional subsidies, and launch offers, the final price can drop to €14,000 - €15,000 depending on the case.

This pricing strategy places Renault in direct competition with the Dacia Spring and the Citroën ë-C3. The battle is now fought on details: standard equipment, perceived quality, and driving experience. Because at these prices, every euro counts and every detail can make the difference in the final choice.

💡 Key Figure
The Twingo E-Tech is offered for €3,000 less than the first generation of the Renault 5 E-Tech, even though it's built on the same AmpR Small platform.

The Press Won Over by Style and Space

The reception from automotive journalists during the first tests in Ibiza exceeded expectations. The design of the new Twingo wins people over with its modern approach without falling into the trap of easy neo-retro styling. It retains its compact silhouette of an authentic city car, far from the mini-SUVs invading the segment.

Inside, testers praise the clever inclusion of a sliding rear bench seat as standard from the Evolution trim. A detail that changes everything in urban use: being able to choose between rear passenger space and trunk volume depending on immediate needs. The trunk can thus go from 360 liters to nearly 800 liters in the utility version presented in EDF colors.

What Range for What Use?

The Twingo E-Tech carries a battery with a net capacity of 27.5 kWh, sized for urban and suburban use. This deliberately contained capacity partly explains the attractive price, but logically limits the range. The choice of Ibiza for the press tests, an island without highways, was not coincidental.

This deliberate approach divides opinion: some journalists regret the lack of versatility for highway use, while others see it as perfect coherence with its city car positioning. At 130 km/h, the car's top speed, the range drops rapidly. But in the city, at 50 km/h, the announced 300 kilometers of range become credible.

💡 Technical Point
Unlike its rivals, the Twingo E-Tech prioritizes lightness and price over a large battery. A technical choice that directly impacts the driving pleasure in the city.

Facing Direct Competition

On paper, the Dacia Spring remains cheaper with its starting price around €16,000. But the gap narrows when comparing real equipment levels. The Citroën ë-C3 plays in the same league with a similar positioning and close dimensions.

The Leapmotor T03, cited among the rivals, offers a different approach with more high-tech equipment as standard. But Chinese brands still struggle to convince on perceived quality and distribution networks. Renault is betting on its history, its network, and the trust of French customers in the diamond brand.

When Will It Be Available?

Orders for the Twingo E-Tech have been open since March 2026, with first deliveries scheduled for summer. The manufacturer already offers the Twingo R Pass, a priority reservation program similar to the one set up for the Renault 5 and 4 E-Tech.

Delivery times remain to be confirmed depending on the chosen trim. The base version at €17,000 could see high demand, potentially meaning extended wait times. Renault promises a gradual ramp-up of its European production.
