The MG4 gets a 2026 facelift with a new dashboard borrowed from the SUV MG S5, a base 64 kWh LFP battery, and three powertrains ranging from 190 to 435 hp. Available from March 2026 at 198 sales points across France, it's joined by a little sister called the MG4 Urban, already on sale in the UK and Austria, which opens the door to prices around €25,000 before incentives.

"After more than 20,000 registrations in France in 2023, the trajectory took a downturn in 2025 with just 11,061 units—a drop of about 69%." — Les Voitures

A Facelift That's Mostly Inside

On the outside, it's not exactly obvious. MG has kept the angular silhouette that made the MG4's reputation—4.29 m long, 1.84 m wide, 1.52 m tall—just adding new 18-inch wheels and a redesigned one-piece rear spoiler. Not enough to fill a press release, but it does slightly freshen up the look.

The real work happens inside. The ultra-minimalist dashboard of the first MG4, which drew some criticism, gives way to an architecture directly borrowed from the MG S5 EV. The central screen grows from 10.25 to 12.8 inches, compatible with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Crucially, physical buttons return on the center console—gear selector, parking brake, 15 W wireless charger. Heated steering wheel and front seats are now standard. The seats gain more contouring, and storage spaces multiply.

💡 Did you know?
The MG4 scored 5 stars in Euro NCAP tests. The facelifted version retains all standard driving aids: adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear collision assist, and semi-autonomous driving.

Three Powertrains, Two Philosophies

The small 51 kWh battery from the previous range disappears. The entry-level now uses 64 kWh LFP—a lithium-iron-phosphate chemistry that's more durable over time, less sensitive to cold, and more reassuring for longevity. The motor delivers 190 hp and 350 Nm (100 Nm more than before) for a 0-100 km/h time of 7.5 seconds. WLTP range: 452 km. On paper, that's decent. On the highway in winter, expect about 300 km, like most compact EVs in this class.

The 77 kWh NMC version ups power to 245 hp and claims 545 km WLTP. This is the configuration for high-mileage drivers—again, with a reality check that brings range down to 350-380 km on the motorway. DC fast charging peaks at 154 kW, with a 10-80% charge in 25 minutes on the 64 kWh version.

At the top, the XPOWER remains in the lineup: two motors, all-wheel drive, 435 hp, and 3.8 seconds for 0-100 km/h. It packs a 64 kWh NMC battery for 405 km WLTP. A sporty model that willingly sacrifices some range for dynamics.

When Does It Arrive and at What Price?

Launch in France is scheduled for March 2026, across 198 dealerships in the MG Motor France network. Exact prices for the French market are not yet official as of this writing. In Austria—the first continental market to confirm pricing—the facelifted 64 kWh version starts at €38,890 list price, according to Electrive. That's a position that might surprise those who bought the first MG4 for around €30,000. The upgrade in quality is real, but the price stings.

The facelifted MG4 will have to convince against solid rivals: the Renault Mégane E-Tech (from €35,000), the Volkswagen ID.3 , or the Cupra Born . On range and base price, MG still holds an advantage. On perceived quality and dealer network, the gap has narrowed.
