Cupra Raval 2026: The Sporty Electric City Car Arrives Soon

The future Cupra Raval is set to hit the urban EV market with a launch planned for 2026. This sporty electric city car, developed from the UrbanRebel concept, will roll off the production lines in Martorell, Spain. But even before its official launch, the Spanish car is already making headlines for an unexpected reason: a Chinese manufacturer has filed a patent faithfully reproducing its design.

A Chinese Copy Ahead of Time

The story would be amusing if it weren't indicative of a persistent phenomenon. While the Cupra Raval hasn't even been officially presented to the public, an unidentified Chinese manufacturer has already patented a city car that replicates the Spaniard's style feature for feature. The 3D renderings circulating online show a striking resemblance: the same sharp triangular headlights, identical aggressive bumper, and even the rear light bar that bears... the Cupra logo. This rather comical situation occurs at a time when the Chinese automotive industry is, however, trying to shed its copycat image.

The Martorell Plant Enters the Electric Era

The production of the Raval will mark a historic turning point for the Spanish Martorell plant. For the first time in its history, the site will assemble a 100% electric car. This industrial transformation required colossal investments: 160,000 m² have been adapted to integrate the specificities of electric vehicles, notably the assembly of batteries.

The plant has installed 1,000 new robots in the body shop phase and integrated 60 cutting dies for components. An automated bridge spanning 600 meters now connects the battery assembly plant to the production line, ensuring an optimized workflow. This modernization places Martorell at the heart of Volkswagen's Brand Group Core project, which is developing a new generation of urban electric city cars.

FC Barcelona Players to Test the Raval

In a rather original marketing operation, Cupra enlisted FC Barcelona players to "test" its future city car. Frenkie de Jong, Pedri, Ferran Torres, and Lamine Yamal swapped their cleats for a steering wheel on urban courses set up around the club's facilities. The footballers particularly appreciated the Sport mode and the Sennheiser audio system of the camouflaged Raval VZ version they were able to experience.

This collaboration illustrates the strong partnership between Cupra and FC Barcelona, of which the brand is the official automotive and mobility partner. A commemorative Cupra Formentor will even accompany the teams during 13 trips in Spain and Europe as part of the "The Road Back Home" initiative.

## Starting From What Price?

The Cupra Raval will start at €26,000 according to the first official information. A limited series is already offered on long-term lease from €399/month with no down payment. This aggressive pricing policy clearly targets the Renault 5 E-Tech, Peugeot ee-208](/article/peugeot-remplace-le-puretech-par-le-moteur-turbo-100-sur-208-et-2008), and their sporty derivatives, the Alpine A290 and e-208 GTI.

A City Car Inspired by the UrbanRebel Concept

The name Raval refers to the alternative neighborhood of Barcelona, known for its creative and rebellious atmosphere. This electric city car carries the DNA of the UrbanRebel concept presented in 2022, with its muscular forms alternating soft lines and sharp edges. Unlike other Cupra models based on the standard MEB platform, the Raval uses MEB+, an architecture optimized for city cars with front-wheel drive.
