Cupra Born 2026: 600km Range and Real Buttons

The Cupra Born undergoes a cosmetic overhaul with the 2026 facelift that addresses its principal shortcomings. Over 600 km of range, physical buttons replacing the shameful touch controls, and a 326-horsepower VZ variant : here's what changes on the Spanish electric compact arriving this summer.
"We've finally replaced those wretched touch controls on the steering wheel with actual physical buttons" — Cupra Ergonomics Manager
The original Cupra Born first arrived on our roads in 2021. This electric compact, technical twin of the Volkswagen ID.3, quickly established itself as a bestseller with 5,119 units sold in France in 2025. Four years after its debut, it deserved a refresh.
Design Moves Closer to the Tavascan
The facelift adopts Cupra's new design language. The front fascia now features the distinctive "shark nose" already seen on the Tavascan. The triangular Matrix LED headlights replace the previous units, with the brand's characteristic three-triangle light signature. The front and rear bumpers are entirely redesigned, gaining 12 millimeters in length to reach 4.34 meters.
At the rear, the Cupra logo illuminates and integrates into a continuous light strip. The taillights echo the triangular pattern of the headlights. Five new wheel designs are available, from 19 to 20 inches, fitted with widened tires at 235 mm versus 215 mm previously.
The Interior Corrects Its Main Flaws
This is where Cupra has listened best to criticism. The steering wheel abandons its despised haptic controls in favor of genuine physical buttons. The four electric windows each regain their own switch—gone is the two-button system that forced juggling between front and rear.
The instrument cluster grows from 5.3 to 10.25 inches, a welcome improvement. The central screen of 12.9 inches retains its size but switches to Android Automotive. The climate controls remain touch-sensitive, but now benefit from backlighting.
Three Power Levels, Up to 326 Horsepower
Cupra offers three powertrains for this 2026 Born. The base model delivers 190 horsepower (down from 204 hp previously) with a 58 kWh battery providing 450 km WLTP range. Charging power increases from 120 to 135 kW.
The mid-level version produces 231 horsepower with the 79 kWh battery. Its range reaches 600 km WLTP and fast charging peaks at 185 kW versus 175 kW previously.
At the top, the Born VZ retains its 326 horsepower and the same 79 kWh battery. This sportier variant debuts One Pedal mode that maximizes energy recovery during braking.
Pricing and Availability
Cupra has not yet revealed French pricing. In Germany, the previous Born started at €40,450 for the base version. Expect a modest premium for this facelift, with sales beginning summer 2026.
Competition in the compact electric segment is fierce. The Renault Mégane E-Tech offers 300 km range from €35,200, while the MG4 delivers 350 km from €31,990. The Born is betting on its sportier character and superior range to justify a premium price.
A Raval Version Coming Soon
This Born evolution paves the way for its younger sibling, the Raval. This electric city car will be unveiled on April 9th with an entry price of
