Seat launches pilot production of the Cupra Raval electric at Martorell. The all-electric city car enters pre-series before full production scheduled for July 2026. The Spanish factory has been entirely transformed with 1,000 new robots and 160,000 m² of EV-specific upgrades.

"We're entering a historic year. At Martorell, the epicenter of future mobility, we're in the final phase of series production for the Cupra Raval, the car that will mark the beginning of a new era" — Markus Haupt, CEO of Seat and Cupra brands

Catalonia's Electric Revolution

Seat's Martorell plant is currently in its final preparations before launching the Cupra Raval. The pilot production phase, called "pre-series", validates industrial processes and quality standards under conditions close to full-series manufacturing.

This ramp-up represents a major turning point for the Spanish brand within the Volkswagen group. The Raval will be the first electric vehicle rolling off the Catalan assembly lines, closely followed by the Volkswagen ID.Polo. Both models will share the same technical platform but target different market positions.

Industrial Transformation on a Massive Scale

Adapting the Spanish facility for electric vehicle production required colossal investments. 160,000 m² of floor space has been converted for EV manufacturing. Production line 1 has been completely modernized with the installation of 1,000 additional robots in the body shop.

60 new press tools have been integrated, including the new PXL press. Four new body colors have been developed specifically for this family of electric city cars. The manufacturer also commissioned an automated 600-meter bridge that directly connects the battery assembly plant, inaugurated in December, to the main assembly line.

What's the Starting Price?

The Cupra Raval starts at €25,995 in the base "One" trim. This positioning makes it a direct competitor to the Renault 5 E-Tech and Alpine A290.

The Spanish city car comes in two power levels. The entry version delivers 109 kW (148 hp) with a 330 km WLTP range. The higher-performance variant reaches 155 kW (210 hp) with up to 450 km of range depending on trim.

The UrbanRebel Legacy

The Raval's design draws directly from the UrbanRebel concept unveiled in 2021. Its name references the El Raval neighborhood in Barcelona's historic center, known for its alternative and creative atmosphere.

Cupra has lowered the chassis by 15 mm compared to the base platform, added sport-tuned suspension, and progressive steering. Sport ESC (electronic stability control) completes the arsenal to prioritize agility in urban driving.

When Will It Arrive?

The first Cupra Raval models will reach dealerships in July 2026. Pre-orders are already open on the brand's official French website.

This electric city car fits within the Volkswagen group's strategy to democratize electrification in the compact segment. After premium SUVs and sedans, it's now the turn of small cars to go fully electric—finally with prices accessible to the mass market.

The Martorell plant is becoming Europe's spearhead for these new compact electric models. The production ramp-up will be closely watched, as it will determine the commercial success of these vehicles against already well-established French competition.
