BMW iX3: 50,000 Orders in 6 Months, A Phenomenal Success

Over 50,000 orders in just six months, a factory already running double shifts, and lengthening delivery times: the new BMW iX3 is shattering all records. As the first model on the revolutionary Neue Klasse platform, this electric SUV is generating such fervor that the Bavarian automaker is having to urgently adapt its production plans.
"We are also winning many new customers who have never driven a BMW before"
— Oliver Zipse, CEO BMW
A Historic Commercial Launch
In Europe, a third of all BMW electric vehicle orders now concern the iX3. A figure that turns heads, especially when you consider this model is currently only available in one version: the iX3 50 xDrive. Customers have literally been ordering blind, without even being able to test drive it at dealerships.
Production began in late October 2025 at the brand-new factory in Debrecen, Hungary, but the first deliveries have only just started. The result: BMW had to switch to a two-shift regime much earlier than planned to try and keep pace. The factory can theoretically produce 150,000 vehicles per year at full capacity, but it's not there yet.
What Does the iX3 Actually Offer?
The new BMW iX3 bets everything on the 800-volt architecture of the Neue Klasse. This technology allows for a 10 to 80% charge in just 21 minutes, a major advantage against the competition. In terms of range, BMW announces up to 805 kilometers according to WLTP norms, equating to about 500-550 km in real-world conditions.
The motor develops 469 horsepower and 645 Nm of torque, enough to dispatch the SUV from 0 to 100 km/h in under 5 seconds. But it's the interior that really makes an impression with the new BMW Panoramic iDrive and its screen that stretches across almost the entire width of the dashboard.
What's the Price for Now?
The BMW iX3 50 xDrive starts at 71,950 euros in France, a premium price that doesn't seem to be scaring off customers. For this price, you get a generous standard specification with all-wheel drive and a battery with a 109 kWh gross capacity.
📋 Fiche technique
BMW is already preparing the arrival of a more accessible version called the iX3 40. This rear-wheel-drive variant should offer 320 horsepower, an 82.6 kWh battery, and a range of 635 kilometers WLTP. The price? Around 64,550 euros, or about 7,400 euros less.
How is BMW Managing the Influx of Orders?
Faced with this unexpected demand, Oliver Zipse confirmed that order books are "full and extend well beyond this year." The BMW boss, who has just handed over to Milan Nedeljković, can congratulate himself on this successful launch.
The Hungarian factory is just the beginning: BMW plans to extend iX3 production to Mexico for the North American market starting in 2027, and a long-wheelbase version will be assembled in China. This should help meet the massive global demand that is emerging.
A Divisive Design That's a Hit
Not everyone is won over by the new stylistic language. Frank Stephenson, a former BMW designer who worked on the development of the first X5, doesn't mince his words: "Nice try, but it will certainly work better next time." He criticizes in particular the "beaver teeth" of the grille and the oversized air intake.
