BMW just had its 2026-2027 game plan leaked. An official brand portal slip revealed the full lineup of models planned for the next two years: the electric i3 sedan, the iX4 coupe-SUV, and a facelifted M5 Touring arriving as early as March 2027. The Neue Klasse is the red thread running through the entire range.

The i3: The Real Electric 3 Series Finally Arrives

This is the most anticipated model in the Neue Klasse lineup. The future BMW i3 will be the second car built on the new in-house architecture, right after the iX3 SUV. And BMW has chosen to recycle the i3 name — previously used for the quirky city car from the 2010s — for its premium electric sedan. A naming gamble that risks causing some confusion among used-car buyers.

The official portal leak confirms several variants: i3 eDrive40, i3 xDrive40, and i3 M50. Translation: rear-wheel drive, all-wheel drive, and a high-performance top-tier version. BMW is currently testing prototypes in Sweden, near the Arctic Circle in Arjeplog, in winter conditions that allow validation of the onboard electronic systems' calibrations.

Inside, the i3 inherits the "Heart of Joy" supercomputer, a central system that processes information about 10 times faster than previous generations. Regenerative braking and traction control benefit directly — on ice, that's not a luxury. BMW also promises more consistent behavior than any combustion 3 Series on slippery roads.

When Will the BMW i3 Be Available?

The design will be officially unveiled on March 18, according to BMW. Production of the i3 50 xDrive version starts in the second half of 2026. First deliveries should therefore take place in late 2026, likely in the last months of the year for European markets. BMW has not yet announced a final price.

💡 Did you know?
The BMW i3 electric Neue Klasse is the second model on the new platform, after the iX3. It reuses the name of a former BMW electric city car sold between 2013 and 2022 — a naming decision that doesn't sit well with purists.

The iX4: When Neue Klasse Goes Coupe-SUV

In the same vein of range renewal, the BMW iX4 arrives as a 100% electric coupe-SUV version. It replaces the combustion X4 and sits on the same Neue Klasse platform as the iX3, but with a sloping roofline and specific aerodynamic elements — including a fixed rear spoiler — to optimize the drag coefficient.

The planned powertrain range goes from the classic 40 xDrive up to a high-performance M60 version, and potentially an iX4 M with four electric motors according to circulating information. Production is localized at the new iFactory in Debrecen, Hungary. Market launch is expected in late 2026, following an official summer presentation.

The 2027 M5 Touring: The 727 hp Wagon Gets a Refresh

The BMW M5 Touring G99 hasn't even been on the market for two years, yet it's already preparing a facelift. Prototypes were photographed in February 2026 during winter testing, then near BMW M's headquarters in Germany. The goal: a Life Cycle Impulse (LCI) for 2027, driven by two major constraints — the arrival of the Euro 7 standard and the integration of the Neue Klasse styling language.

Under the hood, the 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 M Hybrid remains, but it must comply with Euro 7. Result: BMW adopts the Miller cycle, improved exhaust treatment, and revised engine software. The V8 alone loses 40 hp (from 585 hp to 544 hp), but the electric part compensates. Total system power stays at 727 hp and 1,000 Nm. The WLTP electric range is around
