The BMW M2 G87 has never been more desirable — nor more restless. Since its 2024 facelift brought it to 480 hp, the Bavarian sports car has been making headlines: a nearly €20,000 discount on the new car market via Carwow, an official BMW track kit, a G-Power tune pushing 700 hp, and an xDrive version slated for 2027. A roundup of a car that refuses to sit still.

A €20,000 Discount on the Last True Combustion M Car

The list price of the M2 G87 starts at €77,500. That's already a substantial sum. But according to Auto Bild and Sport Auto, the Carwow platform is currently offering new examples from €64,312, a discount flirting with €20,000. For a car considered BMW's last compact rear-wheel-drive sports car with an inline-six and an available manual gearbox, the timing is intriguing.

At that price, the comparison with the competition holds up: the Audi RS3 starts around €65,000, the Mercedes-AMG A 45 S hovers around €73,000. Neither offers a manual gearbox, nor 480 hp. The next generation of M2 is expected to go electric — which mechanically transforms the G87 into a collector's item down the line.

💡 Did you know?
The BMW M2 G87 is currently the only car in the M lineup to still offer a 6-speed manual gearbox. All other M cars — M3, M4, M5 — have switched to automatic only.

The M2 CS, a Mini-CSL That Nearly Swept VIR

Arriving in early 2026, the M2 CS pushes the S58 to 530 hp and 650 Nm. Car and Driver entered it in the 2026 Lightning Lap at Virginia International Raceway. The result: 2:48.7, making it the second-fastest BMW in the event's history behind the 2023 M4 CSL — and 1.6 seconds faster than the M5 CS, despite the latter's greater power and price.

Auto Bild, which got close to it at the Lausitzring, notes that the CS incorporates "a multitude of exclusive parts integrated during development, unlike the standard M2 which borrows most of its M3/M4 underpinnings." BMW M had even reserved Pirelli Trofeo RS tires with tire warmers for a test at the Sachsenring — canceled due to snowfall. The sports car comes standard with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2R tires (275/35 ZR19 front, 285/30 ZR20 rear) and generates over 1.0 g of lateral grip, according to Car and Driver.

💡 Key figure
At the 2026 Lightning Lap, the BMW M2 CS lapped VIR in 2:48.7, beating the M5 CS by 1.6 seconds despite lower power. It weighs 3,729 lb (approx. 1,692 kg) with 523 hp.

G-Power Turns the M2 into a Pocket Supercar

G-Power, the Bavarian tuner, didn't just add a few horses. Their G2M Bi-Turbo kit pushes the S58 to 700 hp and 840 Nm — 220 hp more than stock, and 170 hp above the M2 CS. All channeled to the rear wheels.

The package includes an ECU unlock, a specific GP-700 reprogramming, HJS sport downpipes, a GP-Deeptone rear silencer, and a carbon fiber intake. G-Power also promises improved throttle response and low-end torque. Precise performance figures haven't been released yet, but with these numbers, a 0-100 km/h time under 3 seconds seems achievable, according to Sport Auto. The kit's price hasn't been officially disclosed, but the bill is "substantial," per the same source.

An M Performance Track Kit for Those Who Find the M2 Too Tame

BMW has also released its own track kit for the M2 — without going through a tuner. The M Performance Track Kit includes a swan-neck rear wing (derived from the M4 GT4 and M3 GT3), adjustable and movable 50 mm into a race position, an adjustable front splitter, wing deflectors, four adjustable dampers sourced from race cars, and the ability to lower ride height by 20 mm.

The wing is so large it obscures the third brake light, so BMW integrated a new brake light into the wing itself. In Germany, the kit is road-legal — which is no small feat.
