BMW M2 2026: Track Kit & xDrive Confirmed
BMW M presents its new M Performance Track Kit, road-legal from July 2026, radically transforming the M2 into a track machine. In parallel, the 530 hp M2 CS benefits from a new M Performance exhaust in carbon and titanium. For 2027, an xDrive all-wheel-drive version will join the lineup.
"We have created the first motorsport suspension system specially homologated for the road" — Jörg Weidinger, BMW M test engineer
Munich's compact coupe enters a new era of radicalism. Starting this summer, BMW offers an aerodynamic and chassis arsenal directly inspired by competition for its M2. This is not a limited series, but a retrofit kit available to all current and future owners of the sports car.
A Race-Derived, Road-Legal Wing
The star element of the M Performance Track Kit remains this "swan neck" wing borrowed from the BMW M4 GT3 and GT4. The inverted structure, typical of race cars, hides remarkable engineering. In "Street" mode, the wing scrupulously respects legal dimensions. But switch to "Race" mode and the appendage retracts by 50 mm to maximize downforce.

The detail that confirms the seriousness of the approach: BMW had to integrate a new brake light directly into the wing. The imposing structure effectively masks the third original light, proof that aerodynamics trumps aesthetics. The angle of attack is manually adjustable between two distinct positions, allowing downforce to be adapted to the chosen circuit.
At the front, the manually adjustable splitter clearly announces the intended use. Deployed on track, it integrates perfectly with the front diffuser to channel airflow with precision. Wheel arch deflectors and an air intake under the oil cooler complete the aerodynamic arsenal.
Motorsport Dampers for the Road
BMW crosses a threshold with these four-way adjustable coilover dampers - low and high-speed compression and rebound. This is equipment typically found on race cars, here adapted for road homologation. Ride height can be lowered by 20 mm at both the front and rear.

Development was conducted in the BMW wind tunnel with the expertise of Jörg Weidinger, test engineer and circuit record holder. The kit retains its road homologation in all configurations: you can drive daily, go to a trackday, perform on circuit, and return home without modifying anything.
When Will It Be Available?
The M Performance Track Kit arrives in July 2026 at European dealerships. BMW offers it as a retrofit, accessible to owners of both new and recent M2s. Installation requires a visit to the dealership to comply with homologation requirements.
The M2 CS Gains in Sound
The 530 hp M2 CS is not forgotten. BMW reserves for it a new M Performance exhaust system in carbon and titanium. Approximately 8 kg lighter than the original system, it heightens the sound of the twin-turbo S58 inline-six while enhancing the aesthetics of the rear end.
The specific outlets in noble materials are not just a marketing argument. The exhaust offers several sound modes to modulate intensity according to use. In Sport+ mode, the M2 CS reveals an even sharper character, worthy of its 530 horsepower.
An xDrive Version Approaching for 2027
The revelation came from an error on the BMW USA website: an M2 xDrive is listed in the 2027 catalog. This all-wheel-drive version would mark a turning point in the history of the smallest M car, until now exclusively rear-wheel drive.
This all-wheel-drive system could appeal to a broader audience, particularly in Nordic countries or for winter use. But it also risks diluting the rear-wheel-drive DNA that defines the M2's specific character against its all-wheel-drive rivals.
Competitors in the Crosshairs
With this Track Kit, BMW clearly targets the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 and its unapologetic track-focused approach. The Porsche boasts 420 hp with a price tag exceeding €100,000, a premium positioning that BMW can challenge with its M2 equipped with the kit.
