2026 Volkswagen ID.3 Neo: Redesigned EV with up to 627 km range

Volkswagen officially unveiled the ID.3 Neo on April 15, 2025, a near-total overhaul of its compact electric car launched in 2019. New design, revamped interior, the return of physical buttons, and up to 630 km WLTP range: the starting price is €33,995, with sales scheduled to begin in July 2026.
"Everything is new in the ID.3 Neo" — Volkswagen, official press release
Let's call it what it is: a quiet admission. The first ID.3 deserved credit for existing, for paving the way, but it often felt like a product rushed out the door. Touch surfaces that don't respond with cold hands, one window switch for all four windows — seriously —, perceived quality that lagged behind a Golf with an engine. VW knew it. And according to journalauto.com, the brand only had its best sales year in France in 2025, with 8,415 units sold, and that took significant commercial effort. Not exactly a spontaneous triumph.
The ID.3 Neo is the answer to all that.
A design finally in sync with the rest of the range
The front end changes completely. A light bar runs the full width, the VW logo lights up, and the black elements that clashed with the bodywork — roof, pillars, spoiler, tailgate — now match the body color. The result: a more coherent, more "Volkswagen" silhouette. According to Les Voitures, this styling code will be used on future ID.Polo and ID.Cross models, which gives you an idea of this car's importance to the brand's strategy.
At the rear, same logic of consistency. The car is still 4.26 meters long with a 2.76-meter wheelbase — the compact footprint that already made the ID.3 a joy in the city. The trunk remains at 385 liters, expandable to 1,267 liters with the rear seats folded.
The interior: where the real work happened
This is where the effort is most visible. And most honest. VW admits the ergonomics of the first ID.3 were problematic, and they've addressed it point by point.
The steering wheel adopts a squarer shape with two clusters of physical buttons. A real volume knob appears on the center console. The climate controls finally have dedicated controls under the screen. And most importantly: each window gets its own button. Four windows, four buttons. Revolutionary in 2025? No. But necessary.
The central screen grows to 12.9 inches, with a 10.3-inch digital instrument cluster better integrated than before. Materials have improved too, according to VW. Per Car and Driver, the manufacturer has clearly "learned from its design mistakes" — a formulation the American magazine doesn't mince.
What's the claimed range for the ID.3 Neo?
Three battery and power levels at launch. The entry-level motor delivers 125 kW (170 hp) with a net battery of 50 kWh and a WLTP range of 375 to 417 km. The mid-range version goes up to 140 kW (190 hp), 58 kWh net, for 443 to 492 km. The top version boasts 170 kW (231 hp), a 79 kWh net battery, and up to 573 to 627 km according to InsideEVs. DC fast charging reaches 183 kW on this top version, allowing a 10-80% charge in 29 minutes.
