The Volvo EX60 is changing the game with three electric powertrains ranging from 369 hp to 670 hp, a record-breaking 810 km of range, and most importantly, the world's first artificially intelligent safety belt. This family SUV has already exceeded Volvo's expectations with 3,000 pre-orders in Sweden within a single month, marking the company's entry into the software-defined vehicle era.

"With the EX60, we're removing every remaining barrier to going electric. This fantastic new car shows what we're capable of, with brand new product architecture introducing key technologies." — Håkan Samuelsson, CEO Volvo Cars

Three powertrains for every driver

The EX60 offers its electric proposition in three versions. The P6 rear-wheel-drive entry model delivers 369 hp and 354 Nm with an 80 kWh battery good for 385 km of range. The mid-level P10 all-wheel-drive steps up to 503 hp and 524 Nm with 91 kWh offering 410 miles of driving range. At the top, the P12 cranks out 670 hp and 583 Nm thanks to its 112 kWh battery, hitting the promised 810 km.

Performance scales with power: 3.8 seconds 0-100 km/h for the P12, 4.4 seconds for the P10, and 6.2 seconds for the P6. All versions cap out at 180 km/h.

📊 Chiffre clé
Rapid charging hits 370 kW on the P12 version, recovering 340 km of range in just 10 minutes.

The seatbelt that thinks for you

The EX60's headline innovation goes well beyond electric power. Volvo is unveiling the world's first multi-adaptive safety belt equipped with artificial intelligence. The system analyzes occupant physiology, seat position, and impact force in real time to tailor its response.

In practice, a heavier person experiencing a violent impact receives higher tension to minimize head trauma, while a lighter passenger in a less severe collision gets gentler restraint, reducing chest injury risk. This personalized approach replaces the "one size fits all" logic of traditional seatbelts.

The device evolves through over-the-air updates and taps into a network of internal and external sensors constantly collecting data. This belt of the future also celebrates the 70th anniversary of Volvo's three-point seatbelt invented in 1959.

Google Gemini comes aboard

The EX60 also marks the arrival of Google Gemini, a conversational AI assistant, to the Volvo universe. Unlike traditional voice commands, Gemini enables natural conversation without memorizing specific phrases.

Drivers can ask the assistant to find a hotel address in their emails, check if a purchased item fits in the trunk, or suggest route ideas. This deep integration runs on the HuginCore system—named after a bird from Norse mythology—which unifies Volvo's electrical architecture, central computer, and embedded software.

Unexpected commercial success

The EX60 is already surprising Volvo with demand. In Sweden, over 3,000 orders rolled in within the first month, while Germany is also posting volumes above forecast. This momentum even outpaces what was seen at the EX30 launch in 2023, despite that model's more affordable positioning.

Faced with this enthusiasm, Volvo is revising production plans at the Torslanda plant near Gothenburg. Talks are underway with unions to keep the facility open an extra week during the summer 2026 shutdown—an unprecedented move for this factory.

How much is the Volvo EX60?

The EX60 starts at £58,755 in the UK for the P6 rear-wheel-drive model, roughly €70,000. The P10 all-wheel-drive tops out around €65,000, while the flagship P12 approaches €75,000. These prices position the Swedish SUV slightly below the BMW iX3 and in direct competition with the Mercedes EQC.
