2027 Volvo EX30: Price Under €35k & V2L Function
Volvo is expanding its EX30 lineup with a new 150-horsepower version and Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) technology as standard. This evolution aims to democratize access to the Swedish brand's smallest electric SUV while enhancing the user experience with innovative tech like bidirectional charging.
"We are bringing major improvements to our smallest premium electric SUV by turning the EX30 into a power source with V2L technology" — Alexander Petrofski, Head of 30/40 Series at Volvo Cars
A New Powertrain to Slash Prices
The EX30 welcomes a new 110 kW electric motor, translating to 150 horsepower, slotting below the current 272hp and 428hp versions. This entry-level powertrain pairs with two battery capacities: 51 kWh for 339 km of WLTP range or 69 kWh for 476 km. A strategic positioning clearly aimed at lowering the entry price.
In the Netherlands, this new configuration with the smaller battery starts at €32,995, nearly €6,000 less than the current base version. In France, the manufacturer has made different choices: only the 150 hp version with the 69 kWh battery will be available, exclusively in the Business Edition trim at €46,250 for professionals. Private customers will still be able to order it.
This pricing strategy responds to increasingly aggressive competition in the compact electric SUV segment. Facing off against the Renault Mégane E-Tech, Peugeot e-2008, or Jeep Avenger Electric, not to mention the offensive from Chinese manufacturers, Volvo is betting on a less powerful but more accessible approach.
V2L Technology Finally Arrives
The Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) function is the second major new feature of this update. This technology turns the EX30 into a true external battery capable of powering electrical devices via a specific adapter. The output power reaches 3 kW, enough to charge an e-bike, power tools, or run camping equipment.
The most interesting part? This function will be deployed on all EX30 models via an over-the-air update planned for this summer. Current owners will only need to purchase the V2L adapter to benefit from it. The hardware was already present in existing vehicles.
Redesigned Interface & New Ambiences
The user experience benefits from substantial improvements with a more intuitive centralized interface. The central screen adopts a new customizable bar allowing users to place their most-used icons. Predictive controls appear at the right moment, smoothing interaction with the vehicle.
On the interior design front, two new ambiences make their debut: "Harvest" in light beige and "Black" in dark anthracite. These trims incorporate recycled materials like Nordico, made from recycled PET bottles, in line with Volvo's sustainability goals.
The EX30 Cross Country Expands Its Catalog
The Cross Country variant gains versatility with the arrival of a new Plus trim that joins the existing Ultra. This version can now be equipped with the 272 hp motor in rear-wheel drive, offering a less power-hungry alternative to the all-wheel-drive 428 hp setup.
The distinctive elements of the Cross Country version remain unchanged: plastic cladding around the wheel arches, increased ground clearance, and a specific front bumper. Range improves thanks to the new powertrain and optimized torque management.
What's the Price for This Evolution?
In France, the EX30 range retains its entry price of €39,100 with the Start 272 hp version and 51 kWh battery. The new 150 hp powertrain is only offered with the large battery in the Business Edition trim.
