Tesla Model 3 vs Audi RS e-tron GT: Electric Track Duel

673 words4 min readBy Thomas Martin

The electric circuit revolution has finally hit performance. Tesla holds its ground with the Model 3 Performance and its 510 horses, but Audi strikes back with the arrival of the e-tron GT packing 912 horses. Volkswagen bets on efficiency with the new Golf R at 328 horses, while Lamborghini electrifies its supercars with the Temerario hybrid at 907 horses.

Tesla Model 3 Performance: the electric benchmark

The Tesla Model 3 Performance remains the reference for performance electric sedans. With its 510 horses and 4,035 kg on the scale, it shows a power-to-weight ratio of 7.9 kg/hp. On the Virginia International Raceway circuit, it lapped in 2:58.4, placing it in the LL2 category.

Tesla revamped the ergonomics in 2025, reintroducing the turn signal stalk after replacing it with touch buttons. The 15.4-inch touchscreen remains central, but the company added a physical button for wipers following user complaints.

The Model 3 Performance can only manage one hard lap before its 80 kWh battery activates thermal protections and cuts power.

Audi strikes hard with the e-tron GT

The Audi RS e-tron GT 2025 represents the pinnacle of German performance electrification. Its 912 horses and 5,170 kg weight give it a ratio of 5.7 kg/hp, impressive for a sedan this size. Its 2:50.6 time at the Lightning Lap places it in LL4 category, reserved for supercars.

Retailing at $181,795, this RS e-tron GT runs Pirelli P Zero PZ4 Elect tires specially developed for high-performance electric vehicles. Its top speed is capped at 153.8 mph (247 km/h), a limit it hits within the first few hundred meters on the circuit.

Audi RS3: combustion fights back

Despite the electric surge, the Audi RS3 continues turning heads with its 5-cylinder 2.5 turbo pumping 394 horses. It loses 7 horses versus the previous generation due to new European regulations, but compensates with new Pirelli P Zero R tires.

Its 2:58.9 time keeps it in the fight against the Tesla Model 3 Performance, which it nearly matches despite a less favorable power-to-weight ratio (9.2 kg/hp vs 7.9 kg/hp). The Torque Splitter rear differential lets it send all the torque to the outside wheel, turning natural understeer into controlled oversteer.

Volkswagen Golf R: German efficiency

The 2025 Golf R bets on evolution over revolution. Its 328 horses (+13 versus 2024) deliver a 3:03.7 time—0.6 seconds better than its predecessor. This improvement concentrates mainly in the fast downhill corners of the circuit.

💡 Key figure
13 extra horses are enough for the Golf R to shave 0.6 seconds off a lap on a circuit as demanding as VIR.

The Golf R's 4Motion all-wheel-drive system excels in tight corners where it can exploit all 328 horses without wheelspin. Starting at $52,120, it ranks among the market's best performance-per-dollar offerings.

Lamborghini Temerario: ultimate hybridization

Lamborghini revolutionizes its entry-level with the Temerario and its 907 horses. This hybrid supercar combines a 10,000 rpm twin-turbo V8 with three electric motors, developing 276 more horses than the old Huracán.
