Range Rover Sport 2027: Swedish Tests & Chinese Knockoff

Land Rover is currently testing its refreshed Range Rover Sport on the snowy roads of Sweden, with a launch planned for 2027. In parallel, the British marque must contend with yet another advertising plagiarism case, with Chinese automaker group Wey having copied a promotional campaign from the English SUV.
"There can be no justification. I present here my apologies to Land Rover, to the creator of the original photograph, and to those who place their trust in me" — Wei Jiangjun, Chief of Great Wall Motor
Winter Development in Sweden
The fourth-generation Range Rover Sport has reached the midpoint of its commercial life. Camouflaged prototypes spotted by spy photographers reveal an update program planned for 2027. Testing is currently underway in Swedish winter conditions—Land Rover's traditional proving ground for validating the robustness of its off-road systems.
Changes remain subtle. You can spot new headlights and a slightly revised grille up front. The front bumper features enlarged side air intakes and a repositioned central sensor that's grown in size. This evolution follows the typical Range Rover refresh formula: preserve the visual DNA while modernizing the details.
An All-Electric Version on the Cards
The major novelty of this refresh concerns the arrival of a 100% electric variant. This decision is part of Jaguar Land Rover's electrification strategy, though technical details remain confidential. The British group is thus preparing three Range Rover electric models for 2026-2027, despite uncertainties in the premium electrified vehicle market.
Current combustion engines should be carried forward with tweaks. The high-performance SV variant will likely keep its supercharged V8, while plug-in hybrids could benefit from range and power optimizations.
When Will It Hit the Market?
The refreshed Range Rover Sport should be officially unveiled in late 2026 for sales start in early 2027. This timeline allows Land Rover to finalize last adjustments on the electric variant and adapt its strategy based on how the premium electrified SUV market evolves.
Another Chinese Knockoff
While winter testing carries on, Land Rover faces yet another case of Chinese copying. This time, it's Wey (subsidiary of Great Wall Motor) that faithfully reproduces a Range Rover Sport advertisement. The visual showed a man with arms outstretched in front of the SUV's grille against a red smoke background.
The controversy forced Wei Jiangjun, head of Great Wall Motor, to issue a public apology on Chinese social media. He pledged to shoulder "all legal and financial responsibilities" tied to the incident. Land Rover hasn't yet announced legal action, but the incident underscores the persistence of copying practices in China's automotive industry.
What's the Price?
Pricing for the refreshed Range Rover Sport hasn't been revealed. The current version starts around €90,000 in France for the base trim. The refresh could bring a slight increase, particularly for the electric variant which promises to be the most expensive in the lineup.
The high-performance SV variant will maintain its position at the top of the pricing hierarchy, likely beyond €150,000. These prices place the Range Rover Sport in the premium SUV battle against BMW X5, Mercedes GLE, and Audi Q7 which are also preparing their updates.
