The Corsa GSE drops late 2026 packing 280 electric horses, marking Opel's return to the hot hatchback game after a ten-year absence. This fully electric version crushes the old thermal Corsa OPC by 73 horsepower and takes direct aim at the Alpine A290 and future Peugeot e-208 GTI.

"Our Opel Corsa is a real bestseller. The three letters 'GSE' mean top-tier electric performance and maximum dynamism. The new Corsa GSE brings both worlds together" — Florian Huettl, Opel CEO

The Beast Wakes: 280 Horses in a City Car

Ten years after the Corsa OPC and its 207 horses disappeared, Opel is resetting the clock. The electric Corsa GSE absolutely demolishes its thermal predecessor with 280 horsepower and 345 Nm of torque, fed to the front wheels through a Torsen limited-slip differential. The 0-100 km/h sprint should happen in 5.9 seconds—right in line with the best hot hatches from a decade ago.

This electrified city car sits on Stellantis' e-CMP platform, already proven on the Mokka GSE, the Alfa Romeo Junior Elettrica Veloce, and the upcoming Peugeot e-208 GTI. The 54 kWh battery (51 kWh usable) delivers a claimed range of 336 kilometers on the WLTP cycle, with fast charging from 10 to 80% in 28 minutes.

Sharpened Chassis to Contain the Power

To handle these 280 horses on a city car's front axle, engineers overhauled the entire chassis. Purpose-built suspension, retuned dampers and anti-roll bars, snappier steering—everything was dialed in to turn this Corsa into a genuine track weapon.

💡 Did you know?
The Corsa GSE will be Opel's most powerful electric car ever, even surpassing the heavier Mokka GSE.

Braking gets special attention too, with reinforced discs and yellow GSE-branded calipers. 18-inch bespoke wheels complete the arsenal, while widened wheel arches and aggressive lower body panels make the visual punch unmistakable.

The GSE Galaxy Expands at Stellantis

The Corsa GSE slots into Stellantis' electric performance strategy. After the Abarth 600e, the Alfa Romeo Junior Elettrica Veloce, the Lancia Ypsilon HF and the Mokka GSE, it's the German city car's turn for the high-performance treatment.

All these versions share the same technical foundation: 280-horsepower electric motor, 54 kWh battery, and Stellantis Motorsport-optimized e-CMP platform. Differentiation comes down to chassis tuning and each brand's visual identity.

Against the Rivals: Alpine A290 in the Crosshairs

💡 Key figure
The Corsa holds the record for five consecutive years as Germany's best-selling city car, its core market.

The Alpine A290, already on sale with 180 or 220 horses, sets the benchmark for this emerging segment of electric hot hatchbacks. The Corsa GSE, with its 280 horses, aims higher and takes direct aim at the feistiest versions of the French lineup.

The future Peugeot e-208 GTI, technically identical, will be the real barometer of this fratricidal battle within Stellantis. It remains to be seen which identity wins over fans craving electric thrills.

When Will It Be Available?

The Corsa GSE opens order books late 2026 with first deliveries kicking off early 2027. This marks the swansong for the current generation, since an all-new Corsa is expected for 2027. The styling of this new iteration will draw inspiration from the spectacular GSE Vision Gran Turismo concept.
