2026 Opel Astra Facelift: Diesel 130 HP from €33,550
The Opel Astra settles for a few tweaks for its 2026 facelift. The German compact is betting on a 130 HP diesel without any electrification from €33,550 and a new illuminated signature with its glowing logo. A minimalist strategy in the face of hybrid competition.
"For the first time, the Blitz illuminates on an Opel Astra thanks to Intelli-Lux HD technology which comprises more than 50,000 lighting elements" — Opel
A Diesel That Holds Its Ground
Opel makes a surprising choice in 2026: retaining a 1.5 diesel 130 HP without the slightest electrification. No 48V mild-hybrid to greenwash the image, just a traditional four-cylinder paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The manufacturer stands by this choice with an entry price set at €33,550 in the Edition trim.
The engine develops 300 Nm of torque available from 1,750 rpm. Performance remains average with a 0 to 100 km/h in 10.6 s and a top speed of 209 km/h. The main argument? A claimed consumption under 5 L/100 km, a weighty argument for high-mileage drivers who devour motorway kilometres.

A Front End Playing the Technology Card
The facelift focuses on the front with the adoption of the Vizor design already seen on other models in the range. The novelty? The illuminated Blitz logo for the first time on an Astra. This lighting signature extends horizontally via LED strips connecting the headlights to the centre of the grille.
The Intelli-Lux HD technology makes its appearance with more than 50,000 lighting elements. This system digitally adapts the beam according to conditions, with a lateral module that activates in corners to avoid blind spots. An innovation previously reserved for higher segments.
The Interior Bets on Seat Comfort
The cabin evolves little but gains Intelli-Seats as standard from the entry-level. Their central cut, inspired by bicycle saddles, reduces pressure on the coccyx during long journeys. Top-of-the-range versions offer multi-adjustable AGR-certified seats with heating and massage.
The Pure Panel retains its layout with the digital instrumentation and touchscreen grouped on a single line. Opel is betting on recycled materials for the cabin, notably the ReNewKnit upholstery, 100% recycled and recyclable on premium versions.

An Expanded Range with Electric
Beyond the diesel, the 2026 Astra offers four other powertrains. The 48V hybrid 145 HP replaces the old petrol engines, while the 195 HP plug-in hybrid offers 83 km of electric range according to WLTP.
The 100% electric version gains range with its new 58 kWh battery. It claims up to 454 km WLTP, a notable improvement over the previous generation. This diversity of powertrains allows Opel to cast a wide net, from the unabashed diesel to zero-emission electric.
When Will It Be Available and at What Price?
The facelifted Opel Astra is already available to order in the European network. The first deliveries started in spring 2026. The range is structured around three trims: Edition, GS and GSe, with prices ranging from €32,650 to €40,600 depending on the powertrain.
The Sports Tourer estate follows the same pricing logic with the usual premium of around €1500. Opel promises generous equipment from the entry-level, including wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity as standard.
Facing Hybrid Competition
This diesel strategy is intriguing when its rivals are betting on hybridization. The Peugeot 308 (its technical cousin) favours hybrids, the Renault Mégane has become exclusively electric, and the Volkswagen Golf offers a wide range of hybrid options.
Opel is betting on users who cover many kilometres and for whom the charging infrastructure remains problematic. A niche that is shrinking with traffic restrictions in city centres, but which retains its relevance for certain usage profiles.
The Astra's facelift remains cosmetic but brings a few welcome innovations. Its unabashed multi-energy positioning, from diesel to electric, should allow it to snatch a few market shares in an always fiercely contested segment.
