Audi Q3 Sportback e-Hybrid 272: 113 km Electric Range Test

The Audi Q3 Sportback e-Hybrid 272 lands with a 25 kWh battery that lets you cruise up to 113 km on pure electricity according to WLTP. This third-generation compact premium SUV is betting on plug-in hybrid tech to win over folks who want both performance and a lighter environmental footprint, with 272 combined horses and a starting price of €60,835.
"With 25 kWh of battery capacity, we're delivering 40% more electric range compared to the previous generation" — Audi France Spokesperson

A major tech upgrade
The new Q3 Sportback e-Hybrid marks a clean break from the old guard. Audi completely rewrote the script to deliver a sleeker coupe-SUV with that signature Sportback profile and a freshly redesigned front end. Length now sits at 4.53 meters — five centimeters longer than before.
The cabin gets a full overhaul with the latest 11.9-inch MMI touchscreen replacing most of the physical buttons. Material quality takes a real step up, though some observers lament the uniform gray-and-black presentation throughout.
Plug-in hybrid tech at the heart of it all
Under the hood, the e-Hybrid 272 pairs a 1.5 TFSI petrol engine with 177 horses to an electric motor packing 115 horses, for a combined punch of 272 horsepower. The 25 kWh lithium-ion battery is the real star here, delivering 113 km WLTP of electric-only range.
That battery capacity represents solid progress against the competition. The direct rival BMW X1 xDrive25e makes do with a 16.3 kWh battery good for 78 km of electric range and 245 combined horses.

The energy management system favors electric mode for city driving and calls on the petrol engine on the highway. Charging happens via AC current up to 11 kW, getting you to 80% capacity in 2.5 hours on a home wallbox.
Power and road manners
On the tarmac, the Audi Q3 Sportback e-Hybrid really shines. It hits 0-100 km/h in 6.8 seconds — respectable grunt for this class. Top speed caps at 215 km/h.
The handling prioritizes comfort with suspension that soaks up road imperfections nicely. In electric mode, the hushed operation is genuinely impressive, and the instant availability of electric torque (330 Nm) delivers snappy low-end response in the city.
Official fuel consumption runs between 1.7 and 2.1 L/100 km per WLTP cycle — though these are theoretical figures that hinge heavily on how often you recharge. In real-world driving with a depleted battery, expect 7-8 L/100 km.
Up against German rivals
How does it stack up to the BMW X1?
The BMW X1 xDrive25e is your most direct competitor with 245 horses and standard all-wheel drive xDrive. But the Audi has the edge on electric range (113 km vs. 78 km) and battery capacity (25 kWh vs. 16.3 kWh).
The Mercedes GLA 250e rounds out this German trio with 218 combined horses and a comfort-first philosophy. On the French side, the new Peugeot 3008 Hybrid and Citroën C5 Aircross Hybrid offer more appealing pricing but struggle to match the prestige factor.

The price question that stings
Starting from what price?
The Audi Q3 Sportback e-Hybrid kicks off at €60,835 in Design trim, a number that climbs fast once you start ticking boxes. The S Line version we tested breaches €65,000, then add a €3,215 weight penalty tax to push past €68,000.
That hefty bill is the model's biggest downside. The BMW X1 xDrive25e starts at €58,350 — €2,500 less — while throwing in standard all-wheel drive. The Audi settles for front-wheel drive, a head-scratching choice at this price point.
Space and practicality
The Q3 Sportback cabin suffers from its swooping roofline. Taller rear passengers will brush the ceiling, and boot capacity drops to just 380 liters versus 530 liters in the standard Q3. The battery steals more storage real estate.
