Skoda Superb iV 272hp: The Most Powerful PHEV Arrives

The Škoda Superb arrives with a plug-in hybrid delivering 272 hp that ranks it as the most powerful model in the Czech lineup. Reserved for the Sportline and Laurin & Klement sedan trims, this version combines a 177 hp 1.5 TSI with a electric motor producing 116 hp for a total torque of 400 Nm and 0-100 km/h in 7.1 seconds.
"One in four Superb orders comes with a plug-in hybrid drivetrain" — Škoda France
The Superb flexes some serious muscle with this new variant that marks a turning point in Škoda's hybrid offensive. This 272 hp version beefs up the lineup against the existing 204 hp option, ready to challenge premium German sedans on their own turf.
A Turbocharged 1.5 TSI With Real Attitude
Under the hood, it's evolution, not revolution. The 1.5 TSI petrol engine climbs to 177 hp versus 150 hp on the base model, while the 116 hp electric motor draws power from a 25.7 kWh battery (gross capacity). Combined output hits 272 hp and crucially 400 Nm of torque — that's 68 hp and 50 Nm more than the entry-level version.
This extra grunt shows up in the numbers: 7.1 seconds from 0-100 km/h and a top speed of 225 km/h. Respectable figures for a family sedan tipping the scales at over 1.8 tonnes, though the Superb 2.0 TSI 280 hp from a decade back still had the edge with 5.8 seconds to 100.
What's The Electric Range?
Estimated range sits between 129 and 131 km depending on wheel choice, putting this Superb among the top hybrid rechargeables. The 25.7 kWh battery charges at 50 kW in DC, getting from 10 to 80% in 26 minutes. On AC, power tops out at 11 kW.
The ability to run emission-free proves crucial for company fleets. With favorable CO2 taxation and most commute distances covered in electric mode, fuel costs shrink fast.
Beefier Brakes and Towing Capacity
To handle 272 hp, Škoda reinforced the braking system. Ventilated rear discs grow to 310 mm diameter and 22 mm thickness versus 300 × 12 mm on the 204 hp version. Front brake cooling also got attention with redesigned air ducts.
Towing capacity jumps to 2,000 kg, enough to haul a caravan or serious trailer. A real plus for families loading up for holiday getaways.
Sedan Only, Premium Trims Only
Only the sedan gets this engine — the Combi estate has to make do with the 204 hp version. Škoda's keeping this one for Sportline and Laurin & Klement trims, positioning it as premium rather than just a tech variant.
What's The Price?
Entry pricing kicks off at €62,520 in Sportline trim. A positioning that puts it up against the Volkswagen Passat eHybrid or Peugeot 508 Hybrid 225. At this price point, you get generous kit: heated seats, tri-zone climate control, and a 12-inch infotainment system.
The Laurin & Klement version pushes refinement further with leather seats, premium upholstery, and more generous standard equipment. Škoda hasn't announced pricing for this top-tier trim yet.
This new 272 hp Superb clearly targets business buyers and anyone serious about cutting running costs while keeping real performance on tap.
