Skoda & Dacia 2026: Dragon Skin paint vs budget family cars

Skoda and Dacia reveal 2026 strategies: one's adding Dragon Skin at £855, the other launching a €18k break to directly undercut the Octavia Combi. Polar opposite approaches to the same market problem.
"Skoda fans voted online on Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn to choose Dragon Skin from three options, beating Storm Blue and Tangerine Orange" — Skoda UK
Skoda bets on personalization with Dragon Skin
Czech enthusiasts have made their choice crystal clear. After a social media vote, Dragon Skin becomes the new signature color celebrating 30 years of Octavia. This vibrant shade, which defeated Storm Blue and Tangerine Orange, launches March 4, 2026 at £855 (roughly €1,000).
But here's the catch: this color won't be available across the entire lineup. Only hatch and estate Octavia vRS versions get Dragon Skin. Even more exclusive, 130 units of the Octavia Sportline will receive Dragon Skin as standard, joined by Waterworld Green, Space Violet, and Royal Green.
Skoda's strategy contradicts the broader trend. While most manufacturers are shrinking color palettes to cut costs, the Czech brand is pushing the opposite direction. This responds to real demand from British customers, apparently tired of the beige consensus.
What's the real-world price for Dragon Skin Octavia?
The Dragon Skin paint option: £855 in the UK, around €1,000. French pricing hasn't been confirmed yet, but expect the same ballpark. Orders open March 4, 2026 for vRS models.
Dacia prepares its counter-offensive with Striker
On the opposite end of the pricing spectrum, Dacia is signaling its ambitions with the upcoming Striker. This family crossover—unveiled March 10, 2026 at Renault's futuREady event—goes directly after the Octavia Combi's sweet spot: space and value.
The Striker reuses the platform and engines from Duster and Bigster, but wearing a crossover-wagon silhouette. This lets Dacia target families wanting traditional wagon space wrapped in modern SUV styling.
The mysterious C-Neo threatens Octavia Combi
More quietly, but potentially more dangerous for Skoda, the C-Neo project advances in shadows. This C-segment estate—spotted testing in France—measures 4.55 to 4.60 meters long with a 2.70 to 2.75-meter wheelbase. Its trunk could reach 600–650 liters with seats up, stretching past 1,800 liters folded.
These dimensions put the C-Neo in direct competition with Octavia Combi (640 liters), 308 SW, and Golf Variant. With one killer argument: expected pricing between €18,000 and €25,000—€10,000 to €15,000 cheaper than rivals.

Built on the proven CMF-B platform, the C-Neo gets Dacia's hybrid powertrains. A high-riding Stepway version is already in development, copying the playbook that made Sandero and Duster successful.
Octavia faces budget-brand pressure
The Octavia remains genuinely well-liked by those who know it. With 600 liters in sedan and 640 in estate trim, it beats most competitors on cargo space. Its 1.5 TSI and 2.0 TDI engines earn solid reliability and efficiency scores.
Octavia's real problem? It looks too forgettable. Against SUVs like Kamiq or Karoq from the same marque, it struggles to inspire. Its understated design vanishes next to a 308 with stronger styling, even though its practical qualities are superior.

That's where Dacia's play gets interesting. The C-Neo doesn't need to be better—it just needs to be half the price and 90% as practical. In the real world, that calculation wins.
