The Skoda Epiq lands in 2026 with a price tag that mirrors its petrol-powered equivalent, starting at €25,000. This 4.17-meter urban electric SUV comes in three versions (116 to 211 hp) and promises up to 430 km of range—all while going head-to-head with the Renault 4 E-Tech and Peugeot e-2008.

An Affordable EV Offensive

Skoda's gearing up to take on the ultra-competitive urban electric SUV segment. The Epiq, set for its official debut in May 2026, marks a strategic shift for the Czech brand. Unlike the Enyaq and Elroq—built to rival the Tesla Model Y or Volkswagen ID.4—this newcomer's aiming at a wider audience, one that actually cares about the price tag.

It's an ambitious gamble: offer an electric SUV at petrol-car prices. With a starting price around €25,000, the Epiq lines up directly against the Renault 4 E-Tech and Peugeot e-2008. This move fits squarely into the Volkswagen Group's affordable EV push, which has four models based on the new MEB+ platform launching from 2026.

MEB+ Platform: Making Space Work

Unlike its bigger siblings—the Enyaq and Elroq with their rear-wheel drive—the Epiq rocks front-wheel drive. This setup, shared with the upcoming Volkswagen ID.Polo and Cupra Raval, maximizes interior room and keeps costs down.

The numbers tell the story: 4.17 meters long, 1.80 meters wide, 1.62 meters tall. That 2.60-meter wheelbase opens up a roomy cabin and a 475-liter boot that stretches to 1,344 liters with the rear seats folded flat. That's outgunning the competition: the Peugeot e-2008 maxes out at 434 liters, the electric Jeep Avenger dips to 355 liters.

Three Powertrains for Every Need

The engine lineup breaks down into three flavors. The base Epiq 35 cranks out 116 hp (85 kW) and pairs with an LFP (lithium-iron-phosphate) 38.5 kWh battery. You're looking at 315 km WLTP range, though fast-charging maxes out at 50 kW.

The Epiq 40 sticks with the same battery but pumps up to 135 hp and, more importantly, charging speed: 90 kW DC. At the top of the range, the Epiq 55 jumps to an NMC battery of 55 kWh and fires up 211 hp. Range climbs to 430 km and fast-charging hits 125 kW, getting you from 10 to 80% in 23 minutes.

What's It Actually Going to Cost?

Skoda's promising prices matching the petrol-powered Kamiq, currently starting around €26,000. So the Epiq 35 should land near €25,000, the mid-range version around €27,000, and the top dog hovering close to €30,000.

It's an aggressive pricing strategy meant to democratize electric motoring. But it raises questions about profitability. Martin Jahn from Skoda's board recently laid it out: "Electric cars have way lower margins than petrol models, and that's true for 99% of carmakers."

Modern Solid Design: Clean and Purposeful

The Epiq rolls out Skoda's fresh Modern Solid design language. Out with the frills, in with sharp, functional lines. The Tech Deck front end's defined by eight oval openings in the bumper, hiding motorized flaps that dial in aerodynamics. That drag coefficient hits 0.275 Cd.

Headlights sport a T-shaped signature, echoed out back. The tailgate's particularly generous—it practically spans the entire width of the car to make loading a breeze. This no-nonsense approach means no power tailgate; motorized struts would just steal too much space.

Inside: Stripped Down to What Matters

Skoda's playing it straight in the cabin. You get a 5.3-inch digital instrument cluster, backed up by a 13-inch central screen. Recycled materials and vegan trim hit that sustainability note. The vibe stays quintessentially Skoda: practical above all, packed with those clever Simply Clever touches.
