The Audi RS5 2027 marks a radical shift for Audi Sport's lineup. Uncharted Power Under the Hood
The heart of this 2027 RS5 beats with plug-in hybrid architecture that completely repositions Audi Sport's ambitions. The 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 alone delivers 503 horsepower, while the 174-hp electric motor pushes combined output to 630 horsepower. This setup surpasses even the RS6 and its V8—a first for Audi, which has never offered a plug-in hybrid in its Sport lineup.
The 22-kWh battery powers the electric motor and delivers 44 miles of all-electric range per the European cycle. The system pairs with an 8-speed automatic transmission that channels power to all four wheels via quattro. Audi claims 0–62 mph in 3.6 seconds and a top speed of 177 mph.
A Design That Provokes Strong Reactions
This RS5's visual identity is already polarizing. The single-frame grille reaches unprecedented proportions, with a particularly pronounced honeycomb pattern and massive lateral air intakes. According to Jalopnik, "even the RS5 itself seems shocked by its own power."
The flared fenders house air extractors behind the front wheels, while the rear flaunts a substantial carbon diffuser and twin oval exhaust outlets. This aesthetic signature breaks from the usual RS restraint, embracing a more aggressive character.
What Cabin Setup?
The interior adopts the triple-screen configuration of the A5 and S5, but here the 10.9-inch passenger display comes standard alongside the 14.5-inch central screen. The Audi Sport package offers bespoke interior trim with serpentine green and brass stitching that departs from the brand's usual playbook.
The sport seats maintain RS philosophy with reinforced lateral support, while the cabin benefits from materials exclusive to the Sport range. This RS5 adopts the five-door sedan format, replacing the previous RS5 Sportback.
An Industry-First Vectorization Technology
The 2027 RS5 debuts the automotive industry's first electromechanical rear-axle torque vectoring system. This technology enables active torque distribution between the rear wheels, optimizing traction and cornering agility.
The suspension system also benefits from bespoke tuning—engineered to accommodate the extra weight of the battery while channeling increased performance. Audi promises the exhaust will "echo every accelerator input with a rich, assertive soundtrack," hybridization notwithstanding.
When Will It Land in Europe?
The 2027 RS5 launches first in Europe in two body styles: sedan and RS5 Avant wagon. The latter replaces the RS4 Avant in the lineup. The American market gets only the sedan, according to Car and Driver.
European deliveries begin in mid-2026, with phased rollout across markets. Pricing remains unannounced, but this hybrid RS5 will logically position itself above its combustion-only predecessor.
