Polestar 4 Electric Wagon: 5 New Models by 2028

Polestar is preparing a wagon version of the Polestar 4, expected to begin deliveries in the fourth quarter of 2026. The Swedish-Chinese brand is simultaneously announcing four new models by 2028, its largest product offensive since its inception. The wagon will join the existing Polestar 4 Coupé, both built in Korea to bypass European and American import duties.

An Electric Wagon to Broaden the Customer Base

The Polestar 4 coupé, which has been without a rear window since its launch in 2023, is getting a more practical sibling. According to teasers released by the brand and reported by Auto Express, this new model will indeed have a rear window — that's almost a given for a wagon, but it's worth stating when we're talking about Polestar. CEO Michael Lohscheller, during a meeting in Gothenburg, told the media that one could "actively debate whether the car is a wagon, an SUV, or both," suggesting a raised silhouette with black plastic cladding — something between a Volvo V60 Cross Country Cross Country and an Audi Allroad, but electric.

The official naming will be straightforward: the current model becomes the Polestar 4 Coupé, and the new variant takes the name Polestar 4 outright. According to Autocar, both will share the same SEA (Sustainable Experience Architecture) platform developed by Geely, the parent company of the group.

What Power and Range for This Wagon?

Auto Express reports that the new Polestar 4 should inherit the same powertrain configurations as the coupé: 268 hp in Single Motor guise and 536 hp in Dual Motor guise. The official range of the Polestar 4 Coupé is 385 miles (approximately 620 km WLTP) in Single Motor and 367 miles (approximately 590 km) in Dual Motor. With the wagon body, which is heavier and slightly less aerodynamic, these figures should logically decrease. By how much? Polestar hasn't commented on that yet.

In the real world, on the highway in winter, expect to divide the WLTP figures by a coefficient of about 0.65 to 0.70. This isn't a Polestar quirk; it's the reality for all EVs.

Built in Korea to Avoid Taxes

The choice of production site is no accident. Both versions of the Polestar 4 — the current coupé and the upcoming wagon — will leave China to be assembled in Korea. The reason is arithmetic: punitive import duties imposed by the EU and the US on electric vehicles made in China make margins unsustainable. By producing in Korea, Polestar sidesteps the problem.

On the US market front, the situation remains unclear. Wagons have historically not been popular in the United States, and Polestar hasn't confirmed whether this variant will cross the Atlantic. For Europe, it's a different story: the segment of raised electric wagons is growing, with the Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer as a direct competitor.

Four Models in Three Years: The Complete Plan

The wagon is just one piece of a larger puzzle. Polestar has detailed its roadmap through 2028 with four launches:
