Peugeot 408 Facelift: Pricing Confirmed, No Hikes

The refreshed Peugeot 408 lands with stable pricing that kicks off at €38,500. The Sochaux-based manufacturer resists the usual urge to bump prices despite this facelift's aesthetic and technical updates. Three engine options on the menu: 145 hp mild-hybrid, 240 hp plug-in hybrid, and 213 hp electric with 453 km of range.

Prices Stay Reasonable
Peugeot hasn't surrendered to the typical price inflation that accompanies a mid-cycle refresh. The 408 holds its entry point at €38,500 in Allure trim with the 145 hp three-cylinder mild-hybrid. Good news in a market where every update usually means climbing costs.
The lineup structure stays straightforward with three tiers: Allure, GT, and GT Exclusive. The latter climbs to €44,350 with the base engine, a €5,850 jump from entry level. A sensible positioning that avoids artificial model multiplication.
Which Engine Should You Pick?
The powertrain catalog casts a wide net—perhaps too wide. At the bottom, the 1.2 mild-hybrid with 145 hp gets the job done without inspiring passion. Claimed consumption: 5 l/100 km, but factor in a €230 eco tax that sweetens the deal considerably less.
The plug-in hybrid steps up to 240 hp, but its positioning grows more exclusive. Expect €49,700 in GT Exclusive trim—a hefty €11,160 premium over the base model.
The e-408 electric version delivers 213 hp and 343 Nm of torque. Its 58.2 kWh NMC battery promises 453 km of WLTP range. Decent enough, though nothing revelatory stacked against a Tesla Model 3 or Renault Mégane E-Tech that match these figures with stronger tech credentials.
What's New in the Refresh
Visually, the 408 evolves through incremental tweaks. Fresh lighting signature stretching into the grille, illuminated Peugeot badge, and Fascinating Green now standard. For the first time in the marque's history, a rear monogram lights up too.
The car gains width with track widened to 1.59 m up front and 1.60 m out back. Better stability for this lifted sedan with its quirky profile. 17-inch wheels come standard, with 19 or 20-inch options available.
What Does a Fully Loaded 408 Cost?
For gadget enthusiasts, Peugeot offers five color choices. Launch-exclusive Fascinating Green is free; other hues add a few hundred euros to the bill.
In GT Exclusive trim with the plug-in hybrid and all extras, you're looking at over €50,000. That price point raises questions about value when premium competitors with stronger brand cachet lurk nearby.
Technology Catches Up
The e-408 finally integrates Plug&Charge for automated payment during charging, plus V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) to power external devices. Two features that bring Peugeot in line with current EV market standards.
These tech additions arrive several years behind competitors, though. When others already normalized them, the "new" factor fades fast.
The refreshed 408 plays the continuity card on pricing in an inflationary climate. A prudent approach that could appeal to buyers hunting value-for-money, even if competition remains fierce in this atypical sedan-SUV segment.
