Mercedes revolutionizes its best-seller with the new GLC 400 electric SUV arriving in 2027. The 483 horsepower and 590 Nm of torque promise sports car performance (4.2 seconds for 0-100 km/h) in a family SUV that gains 84 mm in wheelbase compared to the combustion model.

A Traditional Yet Electrifying Design

The first glance at this new electric GLC reveals an interesting approach from Mercedes. Instead of creating a revolutionary design, the Stuttgart teams have opted for evolution. The illuminated grille now references Mercedes models of yesteryear, a sort of nostalgic nod in a world shifting towards electric.

The dimensions speak for themselves: 4.85 m long, 1.91 m wide and 1.64 m high. But the real gain is hidden in the wheelbase, stretched by 84 mm compared to the combustion GLC. Result: 47 mm of extra legroom in the rear and 17 mm more in height.

💡 Did you know?
The 2.97-meter wheelbase of the electric GLC surpasses that of the Mercedes EQC, the brand's former electric flagship which convinced neither the press nor customers.

What Lies Beneath the Hood of the GLC 400 4Matic Electric?

Beneath this family bodywork lies a dual electric motor setup developing 483 horsepower and 590 Nm of torque. The announced performance is dreamlike: 4.2 seconds to reach 100 km/h from a standstill. For a family SUV weighing nearly 2.3 tonnes, that's supercar-level performance from the 90s.

The 4Matic all-wheel-drive system manages power distribution between the axles. Mercedes has not yet communicated the official range, but initial estimates suggest around 500 km on the WLTP cycle.

The interior marks a break with the old world. The optional Hyperscreen replaces the three separate screens with a single surface under one pane of glass. The steering wheel simplifies its controls, Mercedes having listened to criticism about the complexity of its interfaces.

The standard panoramic roof can be darkened by zones thanks to the Sky Control system. The seats are adorned with Nappa leather or certified vegan upholstery. The center console houses two wireless smartphone chargers, just in front of the cup holders.

💡 Technical Point
The new electric GLC abandons the traditional gear lever for buttons on the center console, freeing up storage space.

Facing German Competition

BMW has just launched its refreshed iX3 and Audi is preparing a Q5 e-tron. Mercedes arrives with solid arguments: the 483 horsepower far exceeds the 286 horsepower of the iX3, and the extended wheelbase offers more space than its direct rivals.

The Stuttgart manufacturer seems to have learned the lessons from the relative failure of the EQC. This electric GLC shares the same platform as the brand's future electric models, unlike the EQC which was an adaptation of the combustion GLC.

How Much Will the New Electric GLC Cost?

Mercedes has not yet revealed official prices for France. In Germany, orders will open in spring 2026 for deliveries planned for autumn 2026. The pricing positioning is expected to be around 75,000 euros for the base version, or about 10,000 euros more than the current GLC 300 combustion model.

💡 Key Figure
Mercedes expects 50% of GLC sales to be electric by 2027, compared to less than 15% for the EQC in 2023.

When Will It Arrive at Dealerships?

The first Mercedes GLC 400 4Matic Electric models will be on European roads from October 2026. France will receive its first examples a few weeks later. Mercedes also plans variants.
