Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series Returns with 800+ HP, Co-Developed with GT3
Mercedes-AMG is preparing the return of the Black Series with a new GT co-developed with the GT3 version. The German brand promises over 800 horsepower and unmatched radicalism for this road-legal version that will serve as the basis for the new race car. Two camouflaged prototypes are currently training on the Nürburgring.
"We are developing the most extreme Black Series ever built. At the same time, we want to set the next record in motorsport with the future GT3." — Michael Schiebe, member of the Mercedes-AMG production board
Long kept in the shadows, the mysterious Mercedes-AMG GT Track Sport finally reveals its secrets. Behind this camouflaged prototype actually lie two distinct machines: the future road-legal AMG GT Black Series and the new competition AMG GT3. An unprecedented approach that reverses the usual logic of Black Series models, traditionally launched at the end of a model's life cycle.
Parallel Road-Track Development
Unlike previous generations, this Black Series will not be a late derivative of the current AMG GT. It shares its technical base with the GT3, in a simultaneous development that guarantees maximum proximity between the two versions. The car with yellow and green accents, equipped with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, will be registered for the road. Its red twin, mounted on slick tires with a full roll cage, will remain confined to the track.
This strategy marks a turning point for Mercedes-AMG. Where previous Black Series were content to optimize existing models, this new generation benefits from a pure racing DNA from its conception. The two prototypes are barely distinguishable visually, testifying to their technical kinship.
The Atmospheric V8 Takes Center Stage
The engine is the other major novelty. Mercedes-AMG is abandoning hybridization for this Black Series, favoring purity and lightness. The flat-plane crank V8 promises high revs and an incisive sound, at the expense of low-end torque. This architecture, already present on the previous Black Series, will be updated to equip future models in the Mythos series.
In terms of power, expectations are set high. The previous Black Series developed 730 horsepower. This new generation will have to surpass this benchmark to justify its positioning. Sources mention a target of over 800 horsepower, which would place it at the level of the current hybrid GT 63 S E Performance, but without the overweight of the batteries.
A Design Without Compromise
The aesthetics leave no room for compromise. Center-lock wheels, massive front wings, side exhaust, and a huge swan-neck rear wing: every element aims for aerodynamic efficiency. The strictly two-seat configuration abandons the rear seats of the current GT, criticized for its unconvincing 2+2 layout.
The plastic side windows, the upright wiper, and the center-lock wheels betray direct borrowings from the world of competition. Mercedes-AMG embraces this radicalism by presenting this model as "the most extreme Black Series ever built."
How Much Will This New Black Series Cost?
The price tag is set to be stratospheric. The previous Black Series started at $326,050 in the United States. This new, more exclusive and radical generation should far exceed that amount. Observers anticipate a positioning at the level of the Porsche 911 GT2 RS and other Ferrari 488 Pista, meaning an entry ticket around 400,000 euros.
Testing Intensifies on the Nürburgring
The two prototypes are multiplying test sessions on the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Recent videos show a car with lively reactions, with 355 mm rear tires that hint at the expected performance. The parallel development of the road and track versions allows for a constant exchange of technical information.

Mercedes-AMG has not yet communicated a timeline for the official reveal.
