Hyundai Ioniq 6 N: 650 Electric Horses for the Track

The Hyundai Ioniq 6 N hits the track with 650 horsepower in boost mode and 770 Nm of torque. This electric sedan promises to blend supercar performance with track-day fun, marking a turning point in the approach to electric performance cars.
"650 horsepower for an electric car is unprecedented for Hyundai. We want to prove that an electric car can deliver as much emotion as a combustion engine" — Hyundai Motor Deutschland
The wattage war is raging on the track. After conquering the road, electric cars are now taking on race circuits. Hyundai is striking hard with its Ioniq 6 N, a sedan that hides a supercar-worthy powertrain beneath its sleek bodywork.
650 Horses Hidden Beneath a Sedan's Skin
The Ioniq 6 N looks nothing like its road-going cousin. At 4.94 meters long with a 2.97-meter wheelbase, this electric sedan adopts an aggressive look. Matrix LEDs hide in a black front grille, while a swan-neck spoiler sits proudly at the rear. It's not just for show: this spoiler generates up to 100 kg of aerodynamic downforce.
Beneath this bodywork lies a brute of a powertrain. Two electric motors develop 609 horsepower in normal use, but the N-Grin Boost mode pushes power to 650 horsepower and 770 Nm of torque. The 0 to 100 km/h sprint takes 3.2 seconds, and the top speed climbs to 257 km/h.
The Art of Drift, Electric-Style

What's most surprising on track is the Ioniq 6 N's ability to slide. Hyundai has developed a specific drift mode that allows this 4.94-meter sedan to go sideways like a true sports car. The specially developed Pirelli P-Zero 5 tires handle the stress without complaint.
The chassis is based on the Ioniq 5 N, but engineers have refined it. The adaptive suspension and dampers have been reworked to offer sharper handling. On track, the sedan proves surprisingly agile despite its weight.
A Virtual Gearbox for Real Sensations
One of the most surprising innovations in the Ioniq 6 N is its N e-Shift system. This technology simulates the gear changes of a dual-clutch transmission. Even though it's purely artificial, the sensations are mind-blowing. The driver feels the jolts during "downshifts," and the sound system amplifies the illusion.

This system doesn't just imitate; it also optimizes performance. By simulating gears, the electronics can adapt the torque curve as needed. Exiting a corner, the "pull" effect delivers sensations close to those of a combustion engine.
How Much for an Electric Track Weapon?
The price for this souped-up electric sedan hasn't been announced yet by Hyundai France. According to German sources, the Ioniq 6 N could be positioned around 75,000 euros, roughly 15,000 euros more than the Ioniq 5 N.
For that price, buyers will get access to N Performance Parts. These optional components include forged 20-inch wheels (which save 1.5 kg per wheel), exposed carbon fiber body elements, and even an XXL spoiler that rivals the one on the Porsche 992 GT3.

When Will It Hit Our Roads?

Sales of the Ioniq 6 N will begin in late 2026 in Europe. Hyundai plans to first deliver to the German and British markets, before expanding availability to the rest of Europe in the first quarter of 2027.
In Canada, the situation is unique: the standard Ioniq 6 will skip the 2026 model year to clear inventory, but the Ioniq 6 N should arrive as planned. A strategy that shows the importance Hyundai places on this performance version.
