The new Ferrari 849 Testarossa definitively replaces the SF90 Stradale with 1,050 horsepower of combined output. The Italian carmaker resurrects the iconic nameplate from the 1980s to crown its most refined rechargeable hybrid supercar, priced from €460,000. First deliveries expected spring 2027.

"This 849 Testarossa is stratospheric! This V8 is fantastic, the car is extraordinarily precise, you drive it on instinct" — Bruce Jouanny, Automoto journalist

Ferrari has completely reworked its 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 to jump from 780 horsepower in the SF90 to 830 horsepower in the 849 Testarossa. Specific power output now reaches 208 horsepower per liter, a Ferrari record outside the F80. Maranello's engineers installed larger turbochargers with ceramic bearings, redesigned the intake and exhaust manifolds in Inconel, and lightened internal components.

The trio of electric motors keeps its configuration: two units of 110 horsepower each on the front axle and a rear MGU-K of 220 horsepower. Total power thus climbs to 1,050 horsepower, 20 more than the SF90.

This firepower delivers 0 to 100 km/h in 2.3 seconds and 0 to 200 km/h in 6.35 seconds. Top speed exceeds 330 km/h. Motor Trend clocked the Lamborghini Temerario competitor at 9.58 seconds in the quarter mile — the 849 Testarossa should do better according to estimates.

Polarizing but bold design

The 849 Testarossa adopts a radical aesthetic approach that divides opinion. The front integrates sculpted volumes with a horizontal black stripe evoking the 365 Daytona and 12Cilindri. The sides feature a vertical black cut replacing the famous horizontal slats of the 1980s original.

The rear reprises the "twin tail" concept from 1970s 512S and 512M prototypes, with two fixed side wings and a moveable center spoiler. This configuration generates 415 kg of downforce at 250 km/h, 25 kg more than the SF90. The Assetto Fiorano package (€55,000) adds extra aero appendages and sheds 30 kg overall.

What's the real damage?

The Ferrari 849 Testarossa starts at €460,000 in coupe form. Expect over €500,000 for the Spider due this summer. The Assetto Fiorano package adds €55,000 with its carbon wheels, dedicated Michelin Pilot Sport Cup2 tires, and reinforced passive suspension.

Add France's €80,000 luxury tax for 2026, bringing the total bill to €540,000 minimum. Customization options can easily push the final price beyond €600,000.

Ferrari expects to shift around 1,000 units of this 849 Testarossa, split 50-50 coupe and Spider. Orders are open even to single-Ferrari owners, a sign Maranello wants to broaden its clientele.

Evolution of the SF90, not revolution

Technically, the 849 Testarossa largely borrows the architecture from the SF90 Stradale. The chassis remains identical, the 7.45 kWh battery still delivers 25 km of electric range, and the all-wheel drive with torque vectoring maintains its operation up to 210 km/h.

Main improvements concern engine sound — Ferrari refined the harmonics for a more spectacular note — and active aerodynamics. The FIVE system (Ferrari Integrated Vehicle Estimator) enhances predictive calculations in driver aids.

On track, journalists praise a car "more communicative" than the SF90, with sharper steering and reinforced carbon-ceramic brakes. The claimed 1'17"5 lap time at Fiorano matches the SF90 XX.

When can you order it?

First deliveries of the Ferrari 849 Testarossa are scheduled for spring 2027. Production won't be numerically limited but time-constrained, with Ferrari rotating its range.

Unlike the usual limited series, this 849 Testarossa targets a broader clientele. Owners of one or two Ferraris can qualify for an order, without the usual restrictions for the most loyal collectors.

The Spider follows a few months after the coupe, with its retractable hardtop and reinforced chassis. Ferrari is banking on 30% take-up of Assetto Fiorano packages versus 20% on the SF90, partly thanks to compatibility with the front lift system.
