2027 Mercedes-Maybach S-Class: 621 HP V12 & Giant Grille

Mercedes-Maybach unveils its new 2027 S-Class, with a grille 20% larger and a 621 horsepower V12 kept for certain markets. The German limousine adopts the MBUX Superscreen system and will go on sale in late 2026.

Mercedes-Maybach has presented its 2027 S-Class with a clear strategy: push the luxury dial even further. The German limo keeps its 6.0-liter biturbo V12 with 621 horsepower, but only in certain markets, including the United States. Europe will have to make do with the 4.0-liter biturbo V8 developing 530 horsepower.

A Design That Won't Go Unnoticed

The new Maybach S-Class fully embraces the ostentatious route. Its vertical grille grows 20% in size and now lights up, displaying the name "Maybach" in illuminated letters. The Mercedes star on the hood can also be lit as an option, just to make it clear you're not driving a regular S-Class.

The headlights adopt the signature three-pointed star light signature, with rose gold elements specific to Maybach. At the rear, three illuminated stars adorn each taillight, reinforcing this in-your-face visual identity that Mercedes fully owns.

Powertrains: The V12 Holds On in the US

Under the hood, Mercedes-Maybach maintains two philosophies. The S 680 still packs its 6.0-liter biturbo V12 with 621 horsepower and 664 Nm of torque, but this engine disappears from the European market due to emissions regulations.

The S 580 relies on a 4.0-liter biturbo V8 with a flat-plane crankshaft, assisted by a mild-hybrid system. With 530 horsepower and 553 Nm, it offers 20 Nm more than the standard S-Class. Mercedes promises an even more refined drive thanks to enhanced soundproofing.

The Cabin: A Rolling Palace

The interior adopts the MBUX Superscreen that stretches across the entire width of the dashboard. Three screens share the space: a 12.3-inch one for instrumentation, a 14.4-inch central one, and a 12.3-inch one for the passenger. The system runs on MB.OS, Mercedes' new in-house OS enabling Over-The-Air updates.

In the rear, two 13.1-inch screens are now standard on the VIP seats. They control infotainment, climate, and even the blinds. Two dedicated remote controls allow everything to be operated from the seats, housed in a redesigned center console.

Cutting-Edge Tech for Comfort

The new Maybach S-Class debuts "car-to-X" communication for the suspension. When a similarly equipped Mercedes drives ahead and detects a pothole, the information is automatically relayed to following vehicles. The air suspension and dampers then prepare to absorb the imperfection.

The MB.DRIVE ASSIST PRO system enables Level 2+ autonomous driving under certain conditions. Available first in China, then in the US, this technology requires specific cameras integrated into the front fenders.

When Will It Be Available?

The Mercedes-Maybach S-Class 2027 will hit the US market in the second half of 2026. Prices have not yet been announced, but they are naturally expected to exceed those of the outgoing generation, which already starts around 200,000 euros.
