The Toyota RAV4 2026 goes fully hybrid and starts at €46,450 in Europe, while the Corolla Cross quietly advances in the shadow of its bigger sibling. Two SUVs betting on the same philosophy — accessible hybridization, reassuring reliability — but telling different stories in the face of the EV surge.

"The 2026 RAV4 PHEV starts at $48,750 in Canada, $2,965 less than the 2025 model, while gaining 22 horsepower and 20% more electric range." — EcoloAuto

The 2026 RAV4: All Hybrid, Pricier, More Anticipated Than Ever

The RAV4 has a success problem. For years, it was the ultimate safe haven in the United States — it outsold the Camry by 163,103 units in 2024. Then 2025 arrived, and the figures for the first two months of 2026 raise eyebrows: according to CarBuzz, RAV4 sales dropped by 50% over that period. A coincidence with the mandatory switch to hybrid for the entire range? The question is worth asking.

This new 2026 RAV4 is not a radical overhaul. Toyota reworked the front end with a more discreet grille and "C"-shaped headlights, hardened the rear proportions for a more upright look, and, crucially, installed the new Arene software on screens exceeding 12 inches. The real change is the generalization of hybridization: in Europe, the entry-level model starts at €46,450 as a hybrid, with no pure internal combustion alternative.

💡 Key Figure
In Europe, the 2026 Toyota RAV4 starts at €46,450 as a hybrid. In Canada, the 2026 RAV4 PHEV SE starts at $48,750, compared to $51,715 for the 2025 model — a rare price drop on a refreshed vehicle.

The PHEV version deserves special mention. In Canada, it arrives with 324 horsepower (+22 hp), an electric range improved by about 20% to reach 80 km, and a lowered starting price. Toyota also bolstered the standard equipment: power driver's seat, heated front seats, heated steering wheel, automatic dual-zone climate control, and the new Toyota Safety Sense 4.0 suite. For a PHEV, the offering is coherent.

The Corolla Cross doesn't make headlines. It doesn't set 0-100 records, doesn't sport a divisive design. Yet, according to TopSpeed, it's seriously starting to nibble away at the RAV4's share in terms of sales momentum. The logic is simple: now that the RAV4 exceeds $40,000 in Canada with its fully hybridized range, the Corolla Cross reclaims the role of the accessible Toyota SUV.

For the 2026 model year, it gets a revised front end, a new optional 10.5-inch touchscreen, new wheels, and heated rear seats on better-equipped versions. The 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster joins the higher trims. Nothing revolutionary, but enough to stay competitive against the Honda HR-V, Mazda CX-30, Hyundai Kona, and other Kia Seltos.

The non-hybrid version runs with a 2.0-liter engine producing 169 horsepower paired with a CVT. Car and Driver is direct about this: it's "sluggish." But the real product is the Corolla Cross Hybrid — three electric motors, 196 horsepower, standard all-wheel drive, and fuel consumption that makes you forget the lack of punch. A bit more power than the base version, far fewer trips to the pump.

💡 Did You Know?
The 2027 Corolla Cross Hybrid features three separate electric motors for its all-wheel-drive system — an architecture Toyota has been deploying on its hybrids since the RAV4.
