Stellantis Poissy Plant Secured Until 2028

The Stellantis plant in Poissy will maintain operations until at least 2028, securing jobs for over 2,000 employees. The group is investing €20 million to diversify the site's activities and modernize equipment, despite current production running at just 400 Opel Mokka and 15 DS3 units assembled daily.

"We made a commitment to give it a future, and we're keeping it" — Stellantis Spokesperson

Production Slowing, But Future Secured

The last automotive manufacturing site in Île-de-France has been struggling lately. Running at a reduced pace of just 400 Opel Mokka and 15 DS3 per day, the Poissy plant was clearly limping along. Closure rumors understandably worried the 2,000 workers there.

Éric Haan, plant director, officially reassured staff. No layoffs planned. Activities will actually diversify with new industrial projects. One team could disappear, but the 700 people affected will be redeployed elsewhere.

€20 Million to Modernize Industrial Capacity

Stellantis is betting big on Poissy with a €20 million investment. These funds will primarily modernize sheet metal production lines. The group is also preparing for new activities like metal recycling and automotive parts reuse.

This diversification strategy should reduce the site's dependence on vehicle assembly alone. An approach that aligns with the automotive industry's new challenges around the energy transition.

Local Officials Breathe Easy

On the political front, there's visible relief. Sandrine Dos Santos, Republican mayor of Poissy, calls it "fantastic news for the city and region." Renaissance deputy Karl Olive expresses satisfaction but remains cautious about future developments.

Unions take the same line: pleased with the announcement but watchful about the possible loss of one work shift.

What About PSG's Stadium Plans?

Securing the plant raises an important question: Can Poissy still host PSG's future stadium? The Paris club is looking for land to build its own stadium, and the site had been mentioned as a possible option.

With operations confirmed through 2028, that option now seems off the table. PSG will likely need to look elsewhere to realize its privately-owned stadium project.

The Stellantis Poissy plant gains at least four more years of survival. Whether activity diversification can ensure viability beyond that remains to be seen. For now, 2,000 families can face the future with more confidence.
