Volkswagen reveals pricing for its new affordable EVs: the ID. Polo starts at €25,000 and the ID. Cross at €28,000. Both models will debut the MEB+ platform from autumn 2026, with power outputs from 85 kW to 155 kW and batteries from 37 kWh to 52 kWh.

"With its €25,000 starting price, the ID. Polo will cost less than the current petrol-powered Polo" — Volkswagen

The strategy is clear. After starting its electric journey in the premium segment with the ID.3, Volkswagen is now targeting the mass market. The ID. Polo and ID. Cross mark a turning point in the Wolfsburg automaker's electric offensive, betting on the democratization of battery-powered cars.

A Game-Changing Price Tag

The key argument for this new generation is the price. The ID. Polo launches at €25,000, which is less than the current petrol Polo that starts at €26,990. A first in the electric car world, where zero-emission versions traditionally cost more than their petrol equivalents.

The ID. Cross, the SUV variant, is listed at €27,990 according to information revealed during recent press drives in Amsterdam. Volkswagen confirmed these prices during the "Covered Drive" events organized for the international press, test sessions with camouflaged prototypes.

What Powertrains for the ID. Polo and ID. Cross?

On the technical side, both models share the new MEB+ platform, a lighter and optimized version of the architecture currently used in the ID.3. This evolution allows for cost reduction while improving efficiency.

⚙️ Point technique
The MEB+ platform differs from the standard MEB by using more affordable LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) batteries and a simplification of the onboard electronics.

The powertrain lineup spans three levels: 85 kW (115 hp), 99 kW (134 hp), and 155 kW (211 hp). Corresponding to these power outputs are two battery sizes: 37 kWh (LFP) and 52 kWh (NMC). The entry-level version therefore combines the motor of 85 kW with the 37 kWh battery.

A GTI Version for the ID. Polo

Images already released reveal the existence of an ID. Polo GTI that will adopt the visual codes of Wolfsburg's famous hot hatch. With 226 hp, it promises to liven up the electric lineup. This version is expected to inherit the 52 kWh battery and the 155 kW motor.

When Will They Be Available?

Deliveries are scheduled for autumn 2026. The ID. Polo will kick things off with a global presentation planned for late April 2026, closely followed by the ID. Cross. Orders should begin during the summer.

Production will take place in Pamplona, Spain, for the ID. Polo and very likely for the ID. Cross. This European choice facilitates access to the French ecological bonus, unlike models produced in China.

📊 Chiffre clé
Volkswagen plans to produce up to 500,000 vehicles on the MEB+ platform by 2028, split between the ID. Polo, ID. Cross, and their variants.

A "Pure Positive" Design

Visually, both models inaugurate the "Pure Positive" styling language signed by Andreas Mindt, Volkswagen's design director. Gone is the sometimes excessive futurism of the first ID models: make way for simpler, more recognizable lines.

The ID. Polo measures 4.05 m in length with a wheelbase of 2.60 m, proportions similar to the current Polo but with more interior space thanks to the electric architecture. The boot is announced at 435 litres.

The ID. Cross, on the other hand, adopts a small SUV silhouette on the same technical base. Its exact dimensions have not yet been revealed, but it should be around 4.15 m long.
