Toyota is making waves with the bZ Woodland 2026, a 375-horsepower electric estate that redefines the family EV segment. With its rugged stance and 600 liters of cargo space, this model developed jointly with Subaru (which will sell its Trailseeker variant) starts at $46,750 in the United States. EPA range hits 281 miles.

Toyota is shaking things up with this bZ Woodland that challenges convention. Gone are the days when electric estates had to be modest and understated. This stretched version of the bZ4X bets everything on versatility with standard all-wheel drive and performance that actually hits: 375 horsepower distributed across two electric motors.

On paper, the formula seems straightforward: take the standard bZ4X, stretch it 15 centimeters at the rear, and give it a more adventurous look. The result surprises with its effectiveness. With 8.4 inches of ground clearance (21.3 cm) and optional all-terrain tires at no extra cost, the Woodland fully owns its rugged credentials.

A Trunk That Changes Everything

The extra space makes all the difference. The 600 liters of trunk space in the Woodland beats the 585 liters of the Skoda Enyaq, its direct competitor. Toyota even managed to outdo the generously spacious Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer with its 605 liters. An achievement when you consider German rivals don't mess around in this department.

Cabin space benefits from this stretch with 33 mm of extra headroom in the rear. Sturdy roof bars, developed in partnership with Subaru, make it easy to transport sports gear or roof boxes. Towing capacity climbs to 1,500 kg, enough to haul a light caravan or boat trailer.

Performance That Impresses

Under the floor, the battery powers two motors for a total output of 375 horsepower. Performance is solid, though Toyota remains quiet on acceleration times. EPA range sits between 260 and 281 miles depending on configuration—or 418 to 452 kilometers. Not exceptional against 500+ km rivals, but sufficient for most real-world driving.

Fast charging maxes out at middling speeds according to Car and Driver, which describes "modest charging performance." A weakness in a segment where charging speed is becoming crucial for long trips.

When Will It Arrive in Europe?

Toyota confirms early 2026 availability in the United States. For Europe, no official date has been announced, but the Japanese manufacturer hints that a launch on the Old Continent is likely given the growing success of electric estates.

The American pricing of $46,750 positions the Woodland against premium competitors. Subaru will offer its Trailseeker variant roughly $5,000 cheaper with stripped-down equipment, which could complicate Toyota's position.

A Credible Alternative to German SUVs

Faced with BMW iX3 or Mercedes EQC, the bZ Woodland bets on practicality over prestige. Its unabashed adventurous estate look appeals to customers seeking efficiency over flash. Premium trims add a JBL audio system, a panoramic sunroof, and ventilated seats with memory.

The collaboration with Subaru pays dividends. The Japanese manufacturer's expertise in all-wheel drive and durability shines through in the overall design. This pragmatic approach could well seduce European families tired of bloated, thirsty SUVs.

The bZ Woodland arrives at precisely the right moment in a market starving for practical family electric estates. Whether Toyota can convince with European pricing and distribution strategy remains to be seen. It's bold, but early specialist press impressions are encouraging.
