Kimi Antonelli Crashes Mercedes-AMG GT 63 Pro Near Home

Kimi Antonelli, Mercedes' Formula 1 driver, totaled his company Mercedes-AMG GT 63 Pro on Saturday night near his home in San Marino. The supercar worth over 200,000 euros, delivered in the special "Motorsport Collectors Edition" series, ended its run against a safety barrier on a high-speed road. The 19-year-old Italian driver walked away unscathed, but the crash comes just days before pre-season testing in Bahrain.
"His vehicle was the only one involved and, although the car was damaged, Kimi was absolutely not injured" — Official Mercedes Statement
The incident happened overnight Saturday into Sunday on the Serravalle superstrada, just a few hundred meters from Antonelli's home. The young Italian prodigy, who replaced Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes this season, was driving a brand-new Mercedes-AMG GT 63 Pro 4MATIC+ when he hit a safety barrier.
An Exceptional Car Reduced to Rubble
The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 Pro destroyed by Antonelli was no ordinary sports car. It was a unit from the special "Motorsport Collectors Edition", produced in roughly 200 examples and priced at over 320,000 euros according to some sources, 200,000 euros according to others. This souped-up version delivers 612 horsepower and features all-wheel drive with distinctly rear-biased character.

Photos of the wreckage circulating on specialist websites show the extent of the damage. The German supercar looks destined for the crusher, with major damage to the front and sides. Toto Wolff, Mercedes team principal, can take some solace: his driver walked away without a scratch.
What Happened That Night?
The exact circumstances of the crash remain murky. Local highway police cite an impact with a safety barrier, with no collision involving other vehicles. Antonelli himself called emergency services after losing control of his machine.
Investigators haven't released details on speed, weather conditions, or any traffic violations. But you can imagine that wet pavement and the 612 horsepower of the GT 63 Pro played a role in this road excursion. The rear-biased all-wheel drive on this Mercedes can be tricky in slippery conditions, especially if it was running semi-slick tires.
Timing That Couldn't Be Worse
The crash comes at a delicate moment for the 19-year-old driver. Official Formula 1 pre-season testing kicks off in a few days in Bahrain, and Antonelli needs to prove his mettle after a difficult first year alongside George Russell.
The young Italian made headlines last year at Monza, during a test session where he wrecked his car on his opening laps. This latest road incident, even though it happened on public streets, won't reassure those still questioning his racecraft maturity.
F1 Drivers Aren't Immune
This episode proves that even the world's best drivers can make basic mistakes on open roads. Formula 1 and public road driving are worlds apart: conditions, environment, stakes—everything's different.
Mercedes quickly issued a statement to reassure everyone about his health and downplay the incident. The German team is betting big on Antonelli for the future, viewing him as "serious talent in the making" despite his rough F1 debut.
The insurance bill will be steep, but the episode shouldn't derail the young Italian's career. The real question is whether he'll learn anything from this mess before testing kicks off in Bahrain.
