Kia EV2 2026: $19,970 Electric SUV Challenges Renault

Kia just dropped the EV2's pricing and let me tell you — it stings! This compact Korean electric SUV lands at €26,670 and can dip below €20,000 with government incentives. Against the Renault 4 E-Tech at €29,990, Kia is bringing out the big guns: two battery options and up to 453 km of range. This is going to shake things up.
"The EV2 claims the best range on the market for electric vehicles measuring strictly under 4.20 meters" — Kia France
Kia Takes a Swing at Competition on Price
€26,670 for the EV2 versus €29,990 for the Renault 4. That's over €3,000 in your favor, and that's no accident. Built in the Žilina plant in Slovakia, this little Korean gets past the gatekeepers and qualifies for government incentives. Up to €7,500 straight in your pocket.
Do the math? €19,970 after rebates. At that price, it's coming straight for the Dacia Spring's territory. Marc Hedrich, Kia France's top man, doesn't mince words: "Its competitive pricing is one of the strengths that should help it meet French customers' expectations." Translation: we want your money and we're not messing around.
Two Batteries for Two Lifestyles
Kia gets it — not everyone's got the same needs. The Standard Range version settles for a 42.2 kWh LFP battery that cranks out 146 hp for 317 km of range. This is the one pulling the prices down.
The Long Range packs a 61 kWh NMC battery built in Europe. Here's the funny part: it makes less power (135 hp) but takes you further with 453 km of range. Kia claims this is unprecedented for vehicles under 4.20 meters. Worth checking but it holds up.
Base Equipment Actually Delivers
The entry-level Light trim isn't cheap-out territory. Triple screen setup, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, adaptive cruise, full LED lighting... They loaded up on what matters. The 11 kW charger comes standard, with an optional 22 kW — a first for the brand.
The Air, Earth, and GT-Line trims add dual-zone climate, 18 or 19-inch wheels, Harman Kardon audio, and Level 2 semi-autonomous driving. For DC charging, expect 118 kW on the smaller battery. The bigger one's still pending homologation.
📋 Fiche technique
Renault 4 in the Crosshairs
Up against the Jeep Avenger and especially the Renault 4, the EV2 pulls out its claws. At 4.06 m, it's more compact than the French car (4.14 m) but the 2.57 m wheelbase guarantees legroom. The trunk swallows 362 liters and there's even a tiny 15-liter frunk for cables.
Renault's 4 might boast bidirectional charging and a heat pump as standard, but it looks pale on range with just 309 km in base form. The EV2 wipes the floor clean on DC charging with 118 kW.
When's It Hitting Dealerships?
It's happening now! Kia EV2 sales kicked off in mid-March 2026. First deliveries rolling out this spring 2026, ramping up for summer. You can already place orders at your dealer.
Timing is surgical. Kia is taking advantage while the Renault 4 is still finding its footing commercially, slipping into a segment about to explode. Analysts predict these compact electric SUVs will represent 30% of EV sales by decade's end. Not bad at all.
Volkswagen Sharpens Its Knives
The competition isn't sleeping. Volkswagen is honing its ID.Cross, cousin of the S.
