The SUV market has a new serious contender with the Dacia Bigster, a model shaking up the C-segment. Launched in spring 2025, this family SUV measures 4.60 m and starts at €24,990, positioning itself against established references like the Toyota RAV4 and the Volkswagen Tiguan. First success: 100,000 units produced in a year.

The Bigster is making waves far beyond the Romanian brand's hopes. A finalist for the 2026 Car of the Year title alongside Mercedes and Renault, it proves that affordability doesn't exclude ambition. With 55,000 orders registered at launch, this family SUV is reshuffling the deck in a segment dominated by premium players.

A Price-Performance Ratio That's a Sensation

The Bigster takes on established references head-on. Facing the Toyota RAV4 which starts around €35,000, or the Volkswagen Tiguan near €40,000, Dacia offers a complete SUV for less than €25,000. This price difference isn't explained solely by a low-end positioning.

📊 Chiffre clé
The Bigster measures 4.60 m long, only 9 cm less than the Tiguan, but with an entry price €15,000 lower.

The Romanian SUV relies on the Renault Group's proven CMF-B platform, guaranteeing a solid technical base. This architecture accommodates three electrified powertrains: the Mild hybrid 140, the Mild hybrid-G 140, and especially the Hybrid 155. The latter allows up to 80% electric driving in the city, a performance that rivals Japanese hybrid systems.

Powertrains Designed for Efficiency

The Bigster's powertrain strategy stands out for its variety. The Mild hybrid-G 140 combines petrol, LPG, and 48V mild hybrid, offering up to 1,450 km of range. This dual-fuel capability reduces running costs, a decisive argument against rising fuel prices.

The Hybrid 155 system stands as the most sophisticated in the range. This full hybrid technology develops 155 horsepower and posts a combined consumption of 4.6 L/100 km. Figures that put the Bigster in the race against the RAV4 Hybrid (4.8 L/100 km) or the Tiguan's TSI versions.

A Positioning That Disturbs the Competition

The arrival of the Bigster worries its direct competitors. The RAV4, the non-pickup best-seller in the US, sees a European rival arriving at a slashed price. Toyota relies on its reputation for reliability and its service network, but the Dacia's value-for-money ratio raises questions.

💡 Le saviez-vous ?
The RAV4 created the compact crossover segment in the 90s, going from an experimental niche to a global reference.

The Volkswagen Tiguan is also being shaken up. The segment reference in Europe with its refined finishes and road holding, it must now justify its premium cost against a Bigster that offers a surprising level of equipment. The German brand counters with its TSI and TDI powertrains, but electrification is catching up.

When Will It Be Available Across Europe?

The Bigster's rollout follows Dacia's usual schedule. Available since spring 2025 in most European countries, it is gradually arriving in all markets. Production at the Romanian factory in Mioveni is running at full capacity to meet demand.

The Bigster Effect on the SUV Market

This move upmarket by Dacia is reshuffling the cards. The manufacturer, historically confined to entry-level prices, proves it can produce a technically accomplished SUV. The Bigster carries equipment previously reserved for higher segments: driving aids, connected multimedia, refined finishes.

Commercial success exceeds internal forecasts. With 40,000 registrations by the end of September 2025 and production surpassing the 100,000-unit mark, the Bigster confirms the public's appetite for an accessible family SUV. This performance places Dacia in a new commercial dimension.

⚙️ Point technique
The Bigster's CMF-B platform also underpins the Nissan Qashqai and the Renault Austral, guaranteeing proven reliability.
