The Bentayga X Concept unveiled at the FAT Ice Race in Zell am See on January 30, 2026, pushes Bentley's luxury SUV to its absolute limits. Built from the 641-horsepower Bentayga Speed and raised 55 mm with a 120 mm wider track, this prototype raises one question: is Bentley preparing an extreme off-road version?

A Speed Transformed for Adventure

The Bentayga X Concept makes no bones about its ambitions. Starting from the Bentayga Speed, it retains the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 producing 641 horsepower and 850 Nm of torque, channeled to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic. But the similarities with the production SUV end there.

The transformation is radical. Crewe's engineers lifted the chassis by 55 mm, bringing ground clearance to nearly 310 mm. The track widened by 120 mm across both axles to improve stability, forcing Bentley to expand the wheel arches by 40 mm. The result? A behemoth capable of wading through 550 mm of water without flinching.

Forged 22-inch Brixton wheels wear genuine all-terrain tires—a deliberate technical choice that breaks with the brand's usual elegance. On the roof, four additional projectors complete the arsenal, mounted on a dedicated storage module.

Bentley Technology in Service of Adventure

Despite its transformation, the concept retains Bentley's technological DNA. The air suspension remains present, backed by the Bentley Dynamic Ride system in 48-volt configuration. This active anti-roll bar limits body lean despite the raised suspension.

The optional Akrapovic titanium exhaust—available on the production Speed—also equips this prototype. A detail reminding us that beneath its adventure-ready exterior, the X Concept remains a 641-horsepower thoroughbred.

Permanent all-wheel drive takes on new significance here. Paired with the new tires and revised ground clearance, it transforms this luxury SUV into a machine capable of tackling snow-packed tracks and rocky trails.

A Response to Rivals?

This concept arrives at a particular moment. Land Rover launched its Defender OCTA, Mercedes continues capitalizing on the success of the G-Class, and even Lamborghini dared with the Huracán Sterrato. Bentley couldn't indefinitely ignore this luxury adventure trend.

The FAT Ice Race in Zell am See—an event where sliding and performance blend—provides the perfect testing ground. This new partnership with FAT International isn't coincidental: it confirms Bentley's intention to explore this segment seriously.

According to early reports, the concept aims to "stimulate and gather feedback from fans" on a more off-road-oriented version. A full-scale testing strategy before a potential production decision.

What Comes Next for This Bold Project?

The question remains open. Bentley remains cautious about commercialization prospects, preferring to gauge reception before deciding. The manufacturer describes this as an "exploration exercise" to measure customer appetite.

Yet the signals are encouraging. The luxury all-terrain SUV market is exploding, driven by wealthy clients seeking experiences. Land Rover's Range Rover SV and the Mercedes-AMG G 63 prove the luxury-performance-capability equation works.

What Price for This Extreme Luxury?

Bentley hasn't communicated pricing yet—the project remains conceptual. But quick math provides a clue. The Bentayga Speed starts around €230,000. A production X version would require specific developments: reinforced chassis, dedicated tires, modified bodywork.

Positioning around €280,000 to €300,000 seems probable, versus the Range Rover SV (€190,000) and Mercedes-AMG G 63 (€200,000). A price consistent with British prestige and 641-horsepower engineering.

The Bentayga X Concept crystallizes a simple question: can automotive luxury afford all excesses? Between its 2.5-meter total height and off-roading ambitions, this prototype pushes boundaries. Whether Crewe's clientele is ready to follow this unconventional adventure remains to be seen. The answer will come from feedback collected over the coming months—feedback that will prove decisive for this ambitious project.
