In 2025, the Chevrolet Corvette crushed all its rivals in the United States, becoming the country's best-selling sports car. For 2026, Chevrolet is raising the stakes with the ZR1 and its ZR1X variant: 1,064 hp and 1,250 hp respectively, lap times that embarrass hypercars costing two million dollars, and a starting price around $175,000.

"A lap time of 2 min 13.80 sec at COTA, just 2.3 seconds off the record held by the Czinger 21C — a hypercar selling for $2 million." — Sport Auto, on the 2026 Corvette ZR1 in standard configuration

The ZR1 That Humiliates Hypercars at COTA

At the Circuit of the Americas, the F1-grade 5.5 km Texan track, the 2026 Corvette ZR1 posted a lap of 2 min 13.80 sec. The production car record belongs to the Czinger 21C at 2 min 10.70 sec. That's a 2.3-second gap. On paper, it looks like a defeat. In reality, it's quite the opposite.

The Czinger 21C produces 1,233 hp thanks to a sophisticated hybrid system, weighs a feather due to an ultra-light structure, and costs around $2 million. The ZR1, on the other hand, puts out 1,064 hp from its LT7 twin-turbo V8, rolls out of the factory like any standard Corvette, and has a starting price of $175,000 (roughly €160,000). The COTA lap was set by Alex Roys, president of Hennessey, on a track that was "far from perfect, in capricious weather," according to Sport Auto — and with a strictly stock car, fresh from the factory and independently timed.

💡 Key Figure
The 2026 Corvette ZR1 costs about 12 times less than the Czinger 21C ($175,000 vs. $2 million), yet comes within 2.3 seconds of its COTA record.

How Many Horses Under the Hood?

The standard ZR1 gets the LT7 twin-turbo V8 with 1,064 hp. Its big sister, the ZR1X, pushes the concept further with a hybrid architecture: that same twin-turbo V8 is paired with an electric motor on the front axle, for a combined output of 1,250 hp sent to all four wheels.

So what does that translate to on the drag strip? Measurements taken in late 2025 at US 131 Motorsports Park indicate a 0 to 60 mph in 1.7 seconds, an acceleration distance of less than 100 feet, and a peak of 1.75 G. The quarter mile falls in 8.675 seconds at 159 mph. Several standing starts were timed under 8.8 seconds, proving consistency in performance — not a one-off fluke under ideal conditions.

The Custom Launch Control System: Not Magic, Just Engineering

What makes the lap times repeatable is the Custom Launch Control developed by Chevrolet. The system adjusts wheel slip, clutch management, and launch RPM in real-time based on track conditions. It's similar to what other premium manufacturers have been doing for years, except Chevrolet has rolled it out across the entire lineup — from the entry-level Stingray to the ZR1X.

The ZR1X achieved its performance with the standard aerodynamic package, stock Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires, and optional carbon fiber wheels. No special preparation, no exotic warm-up routine. This is what Chevrolet calls a production car, even if the average person will never see such an object in a supermarket parking lot.

💡 Technical Point
The ZR1X's 8.675-second quarter-mile puts it on par with much more expensive electric hypercars like the Rimac Nevera. For comparison, a Tesla Model S Plaidicle/tesla-model-s-la-chine-interdit-le-volant-yoke-des-2027) Plaid runs around 9.2 seconds under the same conditions.

2025 Sales Domination: Numbers That Speak

Even before the ZR1 hits dealerships, the C8 Corvette crushed the sports car segment in 2025. According to CarBuzz, the Chevrolet Corvette wasn't just the best-selling sports car in the US last year — it outsold the combined total of the Porsche 911 and 718, across all variants.
