The explanation is straightforward: demand has overwhelmed expectations. According to internal sources cited by Der Spiegel, BMW received far more orders than anticipated for 2025. The Debrecen plant in Hungary is even accelerating a second production shift beyond the original timeline.
Over 3,000 Orders in Germany Alone
The figures are staggering. More than 3,000 orders were logged in Germany before a single press test drive had occurred. Once the reviews published, orders climbed further still. Most striking? One in three buyers had never previously owned a BMW, and many ordered without experiencing the car firsthand.
This frenzy traces back to the iX3's technical proposition. As the first vehicle of the Neue Klasse era, it promises 800 km of range courtesy of its 800-volt architecture and latest-generation cylindrical batteries. The design, drawing from the Vision Neue Klasse X concept, breaks from BMW's conventional playbook.

Rivals Hovering at Nearly Identical Price Points
With this hike, the iX3 finds itself within striking distance of the Mercedes GLC Electric, priced at €71,281 before options. The gap narrows to hundreds of euros, not thousands. BMW is betting its cutting-edge platform technology justifies this positioning.
The Bavarian house hasn't officially explained the increase. Yet the economic logic speaks plainly: when demand exceeds supply, prices rise. With 2026 production essentially pledged, BMW evidently feels confident enough to adjust upward.
Which Version to Start With?

For now, only the 50 xDrive variant is available. A less powerful, less expensive 40 version will arrive later in the year across Europe. On the technical side, the iX3 stretches to 4.78 meters in length and achieves a 0.24 drag coefficient. The cabin emphasizes technology with a panoramic display and 17.9-inch touchscreen.
What About the U.S. Market?
BMW hasn't finalized American pricing yet. The company points to a figure "around $60,000" for the 50 xDrive variant. Deliveries begin stateside this summer.

This early pricing strategy reveals BMW's confidence in its new offering. Whether customers will maintain their enthusiasm when spring 2026 deliveries commence remains the question—though early appetite suggests the bet is already won.
BMW's electric lineup continues its upward trajectory. Following the iX1 and iX2, which gain 40 km of additional range thanks to new semiconductor architecture, the iX3 represents a technological and commercial inflection point for the marque.
