Nissan Qashqai e-Power 2026: 205 HP for This Family Hybrid SUV

The Nissan Qashqai e-Power returns in 2026 with a significant update to its hybrid powertrain: power jumps from 190 to 205 hp permanently, versus only in Sport mode before. Claimed consumption drops to 4.4 L/100 km with CO₂ emissions of 100 g/km, and Nissan offers the SUV on lease from €199/month under its "Power Purchase Days."
"The engine still never drives the wheels — it serves as a generator for the electric motor, which only has a 2.1 kWh battery." — L'Auto Journal
A Software Update, But Far from Symbolic
This isn't a facelift, not a new platform. Just a software update. And yet, it really changes things in daily driving. Before 2026, the Qashqai e-Power's 205 hp was only available by activating Sport mode. In normal use, the car made do with 190 hp. Nissan simply unlocked full power permanently — without touching the series hybrid architecture.
The e-Power principle remains the same: the 1.5L turbo three-cylinder engine never touches the wheels. It generates electricity to power the traction electric motor. No conventional gearbox, no clutch. Road & Track, which tested European-spec Qashqais in the US, sums it up well: it's the same principle as a diesel-electric locomotive. What that means in real life: driving progressiveness very close to a full EV, without range anxiety.
📋 Fiche technique
20 Years of Qashqai: A Genuine British Success Story
The Qashqai was first shown to the public twenty years ago. Since its commercial launch in 2007, nearly 750,000 units have been sold in the UK according to Auto Express, which staged a face-off between the Mk1 and the current Mk3 to mark the occasion. The SUV regularly features in the top 10 annual new car sales in Britain, and it's built in Sunderland — making it a fairly strong local industrial symbol.
The current generation retains the strengths that made the first one a success: raised driving position, decent visibility, easy access, more interior space than an equivalent hatchback. These aren't glamorous arguments, but they're exactly the ones that tip a family purchase.
Starting Price?
On lease, Nissan offered the Qashqai e-Power at €199/month throughout March, under a 49-month contract including 40,000 km, with a first payment of €5,000. The trim involved was Acenta, which comes with a full equipment level according to L'Auto Journal. The offer is valid at dealerships under the "Power Purchase Days" commercial label. WhatCar UK also reports lease deals on the British market starting from £204/month, with similar conditions.
For those who prefer to buy outright or via traditional financing, European list prices remain to be checked per market — Nissan hasn't yet published a unified 2026 price list for all countries.
Against the Competition, Where Does It Really Stand?
The compact hybrid SUV segment has become a fairly dense battlefield. The Kia Sportage Hybrid starts at £34,475 in Britain with 145 hp — so pricier for less power. The SEAT Ateca, a direct rival for ten years, has just been officially discontinued according to Auto Express, which confirms the end of sales in March 2026. The Ateca hadn't evolved for too long, and competing offers clearly caught up.
On the Chinese challenger side, the Omoda 5 is trying to nibble market share with an attractive price, but WhatCar UK notes that its 1.6L engine becomes "quite coarse" under load, and the automatic gearbox has some response delays. That's not the case with the Qashqai, whose permanent electric driving mode precisely smooths out that kind of annoyance.
