The BYD Seal receives a 2026 model year update, now available in the UK from £45,730. The changes are targeted: a larger boot at 485 liters, a frunk increased to 72 liters, and a few tech additions—all without touching the powertrains or prices.

Two years after its European launch, BYD's electric sedan hasn't radically changed. That's intentional. The Chinese automaker is playing the card of practical improvements rather than a full overhaul—exactly what customers were asking for, based on real-world feedback. The Seal remains what it was: a sedan measuring 4,800 mm in length, 1,875 mm in width, on a 2,920 mm wheelbase, with a multi-link rear suspension.

What Really Changes: The Boot and Frunk

This is where BYD went all out. The boot jumps from 400 to 485 liters—a +85 liters leap. According to WhatCar UK, this volume now exceeds that of the BMW i4 (470 liters), which was the segment benchmark. Two tie-down hooks appear to secure loose luggage.

Up front, the frunk gains 19 liters to reach 72 liters total. BYD claims you can fit a carry-on bag, which for an electric sedan in this price range is no small feat.

💡 Key Figure
The BYD Seal 2026 boot gains 85 liters in one go to reach 485 liters, surpassing the BMW i4 and its 470 liters. The frunk grows to 72 liters, enough for a carry-on bag according to BYD.

Onboard Tech: Practical, Not Gimmicky

Two additions deserve attention. A Driver Monitoring System makes its debut—it detects driver distraction and aligns with the latest European safety standards. The other new feature is Bluetooth key: compatible phones let you access the vehicle without a physical NFC card.

Inside, BYD has removed the embroidered logo on the headrests and deleted the NFC logo on the center armrest. Nothing revolutionary, but it gives the cabin a slightly cleaner look. What the European-market Seal 2026 won't get, however, is the new steering wheel, dashboard, and center console launched on the facelifted version in China in 2024. Auto Express UK confirmed: this interior overhaul doesn't cross the Channel.

💡 Did You Know?
BYD already launched a much more revised Seal in China in 2024, featuring a new steering wheel, new dashboard, and new center console. The 2026 version sold in Europe doesn't get it—the two markets aren't evolving at the same pace.

Exterior: Subtle but Coherent

Outside, changes are noticeable if you know the model. The 19-inch wheels adopt a new design closer to those on the BYD King. The BYD logo in capital letters permanently replaces the "Build Your Dreams" inscription on the tailgate—a branding shift already underway across the lineup. The "Seal" name moves to the lower right of the trunk lid.

Three new colors join the palette: Ruby Red, Lavender Grey, and Obsidian Black (the latter reserved for European markets). That's a welcome change—the three grays in the current catalog weren't exactly boosting sales.

What's the Price for the BYD Seal 2026?

In the UK, prices remain unchanged: £45,730 for the Design trim and £48,730 for the Excellence trim. That's more expensive than a Tesla Model 3 but less than a BMW i4 or a Volkswagen ID.7, according to WhatCar UK. For France, no updated official pricing has been communicated at this stage.

The Design trim comes standard with LED headlights, a panoramic glass roof, a 12-speaker audio system, wireless charging, plus heated, ventilated, and electrically adjustable front seats. The Excellence trim adds a head-up display.
