Alpine A110 vs AMG GT: New-Gen Sports Cars Face Off

The Alpine A110 and the new AMG GT redefine the art of the sports car, each embodying its own distinct vision. As Mercedes-AMG unveils the latest images of its electric GT that will challenge the Porsche Taycan with 1,341 horsepower, Alpine is putting the finishing touches on its A110 R 70, which already measures itself against the 911 GT3 on track.

Mercedes-AMG GT: High-Performance Electric Reimagined
Mercedes-AMG has just unveiled the cabin of its new GT 4-Door Coupé electric. This fully electric sports sedan draws its DNA from the AMG GT XX concept and its 1,341 horsepower—a figure that immediately sets the bar exceptionally high against the Porsche Taycan and Lotus Emeya.
The interior adopts a philosophy resolutely driver-focused. Three screens share the dashboard: a 10.2-inch instrument cluster, a 14-inch central screen oriented toward the driver, and an optional second passenger screen of the same size. The tilted center console breaks with the usual Mercedes symmetry to prioritize sports ergonomics.

The flat-bottomed steering wheel integrates haptic controls and two dials with integrated LCD screens to manage driving modes and suspension settings. The wheel paddles control regenerative braking, while three new controllers on the console adjust throttle responsiveness, cornering agility, and traction management across nine levels.
Alpine A110 R 70: The French Track Weapon Takes On Porsche
On the French side, Alpine counters with a diametrically opposite approach via its A110 R 70, a limited edition that embodies the brand's track-focused spirit. Against the 911 GT3 priced at €350,000 fully loaded, Alpine plays the lightweight card with its 1,098 kg versus 1,335 kg for a Porsche Cayman.
What Are the A110 R 70's Performance Credentials?
The Alpine A110 R 70 dispatches 0 to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds and completes the standing kilometer in 22.2 seconds. Respectable figures, but the 911 GT3 remains swifter at 3.4 and 20.7 seconds respectively.
On circuit, the gap widens differently. The A110 R 70 benefits from carbon aerodynamic appendages, 18-inch forged wheels, and Michelin Cup 2 tires developed specifically for it. The DCT6 gearbox now handles 420 Nm of torque—a gain of 80 Nm over the standard A110 R.

The End of an Era for the Thermal A110
Alpine announced in February 2025 a complete overhaul of its lineup, preparing the definitive discontinuation of the thermal A110 by mid-2026. The current range now consists of the standard (252 hp), the GTS that blends GT and S characteristics, and the spectacular R 70.
The A110 R Ultime, a farewell edition limited to 110 examples, struggles to captivate buyers. Only half of the planned units find homes, despite exceptional performance on the Nordschleife. Its price hovering near €300,000 with personalizations explains the commercial challenges.
📋 Fiche technique
Two Philosophies, Two Futures
These two sports cars embody opposing visions of performance. Mercedes-AMG bets on raw electric power and digital sophistication, while Alpine still cultivates lightweight purity and driving simplicity. The electric AMG GT clearly targets the Porsche Taycan in the premium electric segment, while the A110 defends its final months against thermal references like the 911 GT3 or Porsche Cayman.
Toward Complete Alpine Electrification
Alpine is already preparing the post-thermal A110 with an electric A110 scheduled for 2026. This future electric berlinetta should develop 480 horsepower through a revolutionary motor, marking the definitive shift of the French marque toward complete electrification.
The manufacturer is also working on the A390, its first fully electric SUV arriving in 2026 on the Renault Group's CMF-EV platform. With an estimated range between 450 and 500 kilometers, it represents Alpine's commitment to a more accessible electrified future while maintaining its sporting character—though one might legitimately wonder whether the weightless philosophy that defines Alpine's DNA can survive such categorical transitions.
