Alpine is replacing the combustion-engine A110 with a fully electric version, set for a 2026 reveal and 2027 market launch. CEO Philippe Krief confirmed to Autocar, on the sidelines of the Rétromobile show, that this new generation will ride on the APP (Alpine Performance Platform), shared with the Renault 5 Turbo 3E. Entry price announced at over €76,000, a 70 kWh battery, and 350 kW charging: the Dieppe berlinette is taking direct aim at the Porsche 911.

An Aluminum Platform Shared with a €155,000 Rocket

The future A110 electric isn't starting from scratch. It inherits the architecture developed for the Renault 5 Turbo 3E, a track machine priced over €155,000 whose motors in the rear wheels deliver over 540 hp and 4,800 Nm of torque. The APP platform is a fully aluminum structure, designed specifically for high-performance sports cars.

This sharing isn't trivial. It means the electric A110 will inherit an 800-volt architecture, enabling charging at up to 350 kW — significantly more than the A390, which maxes out at 190 kW peak. On a compatible fast charger, the 70 kWh battery could theoretically regain a substantial charge in minutes. On paper. In practice, 350 kW chargers remain rare in Europe, but the infrastructure is evolving.

The battery will be positioned behind the seats, like the mid-engine of a traditional sports car. This technical choice preserves a low center of gravity and balanced weight distribution. Alpine didn't do this by chance — it's exactly the philosophy that made the combustion A110 so effective on the road.

Over 345 hp, But at What Cost on the Scales?

The current A110 R Ultime develops 345 hp for under a ton. That was its killer argument: lightness that more than compensated for modest power compared to direct rivals. The electric version will exceed that power figure — but it targets 1,500 kg. That's 50% more than the combustion model.

This is the central paradox of the project. Alpine promises that power will compensate for the extra weight, and the 800V architecture with hub motors could indeed deliver instant torque that's impressive. But the agility, structural lightness, and pure handling of the current A110 — you can't buy that with extra horsepower.

The Porsche 718 Cayman electric, the direct reference in this segment, shows comparable weight figures. So the battle isn't lost in advance — but Alpine will have to prove that its aluminum chassis and suspension tuning make the difference, as they did with the current generation against more powerful rivals.
